Description

QUICK-CONNECTION SAFETY CONNECTOR
The present invention refers to a quick-connection safety connector.
Quick-connection connectors are known in the art, above all used in the motor vehicle sector for connecting fuel or compressed air pipes, equipped with safety holding systems that prevent the accidental disconnection, for example due to an impact, of such connectors from their related connection interface.
Such connectors are generally composed of a fitting in which the safety holding system is composed of one or more elastic teeth adapted to engage the internal part of a circular groove obtained on the perimeter around one end of the connection interface: in order to allow disconnecting the fitting from the interface, such connectors are further equipped with at least one pushbutton whose pressure by the finger of an operator generates the insertion of a wedge between the above teeth, and the elastic wide-opening of the teeth themselves with their related disengagement from the respective interface groove and the chance of removing the connector from the interface. Such known connectors however suffer some inconveniences that impair the actual connection: in fact, the presence of a push-button does not prevent the related safety holding system from being subjected to accidental disconnection risks. In fact, it is enough to simply provide an impact onto such pushbutton to generate the disconnection of the connector from its own interface.
Other connectors have systems for protecting the push-button that allow its covering once having performed the connection with the interface: such connectors however are not of the quick connection type any more, since, for their disconnection, they require the use of two hands by an operator.
Therefore, object of the present invention is solving the above prior art problems by providing a quick-connection safety connector in which the disengagement of the elastic teeth from the groove of the connection interface is performed by applying a twisting movement with a single hand to a related control ring nut, therefore abandoning the use of push-buttons of prior art safety holding systems.
The above and other objects and advantages of the invention, as will appear from the following description, are obtained with a quick-connection safety connector as claimed in claim 1. Preferred embodiments and non-trivial variations of the present invention are the subject matter of the dependent claims.
It will be immediately obvious that numerous variations and modifications (for example related to shape, sizes, arrangements and parts with equivalent functionality) can be made to what is described, without departing from the scope of the invention as appears from the enclosed claims.
The present invention will be better described by some preferred embodiments thereof, provided as a non- limiting example, with reference to the enclosed drawings, in which:
Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a preferred embodiment of the quick-connection safety connector according to the present invention;
Figure 2 shows a partially-exploded and perspective view of the quick-connection safety connector according to the present invention;
- Figure 3 shows a side view of the quick-connection safety connector according to the present invention;
Figure 4 shows another side view of the quick- connection safety connector according to the present invention; and
- Figure 5 shows a top view of the quick-connection safety connector according to the present invention.
With reference to the Figures, it is possible to note that the quick-connection safety connector 1 according to the present invention is composed of at least one fitting 3 having a first end 5 adapted to be connected to a transport duct of a fluid, for example fuel, and a second end 7 adapted to be placed in connection with a related connection interface (not shown) , of a substantially known type, equipped with at least one circular groove arranged on the perimeter around its own end and concentric with an axis X.
Obviously, the first end 5 can be equipped with any known connection system to the duct. Similarly, the second end 7 can be equipped with any holding system to the interface which is known in the art, such system comprising, for example, interposing one or more sealing 0-ring gaskets 11.
Advantageously, the connector 1 according to the present invention is further equipped with a safety holding system composed of at least one control ring nut 13 rotating around the above axis X and equipped on its perimeter with at least one connecting tooth 15 (preferably two) adapted to engage by elastic deformation the connection interface groove: each tooth 15 is in fact preferably equipped at one of its ends with at least one insertion-facilitating profile 17 that allows the elastic deformation of the tooth 15 itself following an axial pressure exerted along axis X on the connector 1 and oriented towards the connection interface: such axial pressure allows, as already proposed by the prior art, the wide-opening of the teeth 15 by the interface and the quick connection of the connector 1 on the connection interface, in particular through the insertion of the connecting teeth 15 inside the circular groove.
Instead, in order to allow the disconnection of the connector 1 from the connection interface, the control ring nut 13 advantageously cooperates with the fitting 3 by interposing deforming means 19 of the ring nut 13, that, following a rotation R of such ring nut 13 around the axis X from a rest position thereof, generate the wide-opening by elastic deformation of the connecting teeth 15 with the related disengagement from the respective interface groove, and the chance of removing the connector 1 from the interface itself. In particular, such deforming means 19 are composed of at least one ramp profile 21, preferably integral with the ring nut 13 and arranged inside and on the perimeter of this latter one, cooperating through a relative sliding following the rotation R around axis X with at least one wide-opening tooth 23, preferably integral with the fitting 3, that generates the deformation of the control ring nut 13, and the consequent wide-opening by elastic deformation of the connecting teeth 15 integral with this latter one.
In fact, with reference in particular to Figure 5, it is possible to note that, in a rest position, coinciding for example with the situation of connection of the connector 1 according to the present invention to the connection interface, each wide-opening tooth 23 resides inside a related ramp profile 21. By exerting a torsion around axis X on the control ring nut 13, that generates its rotation R, the shape of each wide-opening tooth 23 generates, due to the relative sliding of the related ramp profile 21 taken to rotate integrally with the ring nut 13, the deformation and elastic wide-opening of the ring nut 13 itself and the related wide-opening by elastic deformation of the connecting teeth 15 integral therewith, that allows its disengagement from the circular groove of the connection interface and the consequent chance of disconnection of the connector 1 according to the present invention.
In order to allow a safer and more reliable grip and allow an easier disconnection of the connector 1 from the connection interface, the control ring nut 13 can be equipped on its perimeter and externally with one or more portions that are kunrled or covered with a sliding- preventing material 25 that increases the seal of the operator's fingers.
It is therefore clear that the quick-connection safety connector 1 according to the present invention, as previously described, has the following advantages with respect to what is proposed by the known prior art:
safety increase, since the control ring nut 13 is not sensible to possible impacts that could generate an accidental disconnection;
chance of quick connection and disconnection with a single hand;
torsion-type, instead of pressure-type, operating principle .
