Abstract
Disclosed is a battery management method for an automobile, devised in such a way as to make it easy to ascertain whether the battery has been charged in an automobile capable of battery auto-charging. More particularly, in the present invention, a measurement is taken of natural battery consumption due to shutdown on idling after the engine ignition has been turned off, and the invention allows an improvement in degraded engine starting ability in cases where the battery voltage is smaller than the minimum battery consumption in a low external-air-temperature state following the implementation of battery charging in cases where the measured natural battery consumption is smaller than the minimum battery consumption for cranking, and, additionally, the invention allows an improvement in the overall performance of the vehicle as the state of battery charging is monitored and battery charging is managed in accordance with the results of the monitoring, in such a way that the battery is charged to the target battery charging capacity and unnecessary charging is prevented.
