- cables especially connecting cables of electrical equipment, it must be ensured before use that they are not damaged, since otherwise safety problems may arise, such as, for example, the endangering of persons or the emergence of fires.
- cables are usually surrounded by a sheath. Therefore, if the cable is damaged, the sheathing is usually damaged first.
- a cable according to the present invention comprises a sheath. This may be, for example, an insulating sheath around a single conductor, or even a sheath comprising a plurality of conductors, each with its own insulation.
- a cable according to the invention further comprises an indicator material which at least partially emerges from the cable in the event of damage to the sheath.
- the indicator material is arranged in the cable so that it does not come into contact with the ambient air. Then, the indicator material may be configured to exit the cable when in contact with the ambient air and into it contained oxygen reacts. For example, the indicator material may swell on contact with oxygen and thereby escape from the cable.
- the indicator material comprises a colored substance, preferably in a signal color which differs markedly from the color of the cable or its sheathing. As a result, it can be easily recognized if the indicator material emerges from the cable if the cable is damaged.

Abstract
