Abstract

This invention provides a system and a method to determine the best source of advertising revenue for a Web site. In a market where the number of Web sites published on the Internet is constantly increasing there is a need for a system and a method to offer to a Web site's owner a way to determine the best source of revenue for the advertising space that a Web site can make available. This invention provides a method able to display automatically advertisements from the source that can generate the most income for the Web site's owner. Thanks to this invention the owner of the Web site can display his / her regular source of advertisement while trying to sell the advertising space for a specific price and for a specific period of time. Once the advertisement space is sold based on the Web site's owner requests the software will display the advertisement from the new source until the time for which the space was bought expires and then the software will display the advertisement from the original source. This invention may allow the owner's of a Web site to get a better value for his / her advertising space without risking to lose the regular income generated from his / regular advertising source. The invention also allows the Web site 's owner to register his / her Web site to a web software on a web server so that different source of advertisements can appear on his / her Web site (one at the time - for a specific period of time) and the revenue generated for each source can be compared to determine which source of advertisement can generate a greater revenue for the Web site. The system at the same time provides statistics to the Web site's owner to compare his/her advertising space value with other Web sites in order to determine a competitive marketing strategy for his/her advertisement space.

Description

Description
Determining the best source of advertising revenue for a Web site. TECHNICAL FIELD
[0001] This invention relates to methods of determining the best source to generate the most advertising revenue for a Web site and methods to measure, compare and manage different sources of advertisement for a Web site.
BACKGROUND ART
[0002] The increase number of Web sites published throughout the world on the Internet and the increase number of traffic on the Internet has resulted in a growing demand for methods to evaluate and manage valid sources of revenue for the sale of advertising spaces by the owners of the Web sites.
[0003] Currently, the owner of a Web site does not have a lot of options when it comes to selling his / her advertising spaces. The owner of a Web site can rely on search engines (such as Google or other) to manage and sell his spaces. Unfortunately by selling an advertising space through a search engine, the owner of a Web site does not have a clear idea on how much revenue his/her advertisement space can actually generate. This is because most search engines do not provide any transparency on how much revenue the Web site advertising space has actually generated before commissions are paid to the owner of the Web site.
[0004] In other words, if a Web site owner's provides an advertising space to a search engine, the search engine collects X amount by providing that space to its advertisers and it gives Y amount to the Web site's owner without providing any information on the actual X amount collected. [0005] Additionally, by selling an advertisement space through a search engine, the owner of the advertisement space cannot set a specific price for his / her space but he/she has to trust and to rely on the search engine to determine the marketing strategy and revenues for his/her advertising space.
[0006] The other option for a Web site's owner is to sell the advertising space directly, but in this case it becomes much harder to attract a large number of potential advertisers and the owner of the Web site would required a more complex site structure to manage the actual financial transactions for the sale of the space.
[0007] Often, it is also hard for a Web site's owner to determine the true value of his / her Web site or to determine competitive prices for his / her adverting spaces.
[0008] Accordingly, there is a need for a system and a method to offer to a Web site's owner a way to determine the best source of revenue for an advertising space that a Web site can offer to the market and a method to display automatically advertisements from the source that can generate the most income for the Web site's owner.
DISCLOSURE OF INVENTION
[0009] This invention provides a system and a method for determining and managing the best source of advertising revenue for a Web site. The system includes a Web software with a graphical interface on a web server that may allow a Web site owner to obtain a better revenue for the advertising space made available by the Web site's owner without losing the regular advertising revenue generated from his/her Web site.
[0010] This is accomplished by the owner of the Web site registering specific information on his/her Web site in a web software on a web server (as shown in Fig. 1 ) in order to generate and obtain a source code (which is made of lines of customized software code based on the information entered by the Web site's owner) to be inserted on the owner's Web site.
[0011] This source code inserted on the owner's Web site will have several objectives. The first objective will be to communicate with a web software on a web server named the SOAR Engine (Source Of Advertising Revenue - as shown in Fig. 2) that thanks to proprietary software algorithms will monitor if the same space was sold to other sources of advertising revenue at a specific price requested by the Web site's owner and for a specific period.
[0012] The second objective of the source code inserted on the owner's Web site will be to obtain and display, once the space is sold, the new advertisement for the period for which the space was sold and as soon as the period expires to automatically display back the original advertisement (which could have been search engine advertisements or a advertisement directly created by the Web site's owner).
[0013] The third objective of the source code inserted on the owner's Web site will be to send data to a web software on a web server. This data may include the numbers of visitors and the numbers of clicks received on the advertisement space made available in order to provide to the owner of the Web site specific statistics in order to compare his Web site space with other advertisement spaces. [0014] The web software on the web server, thanks to proprietary software algorithms (named as mentioned earlier the Soar Engine - as shown in Fig. 2) will allow the owner of the Web site to sell his / her space directly to advertisers at a specific price for a specific period. The Soar Engine will handle all the sales transactions to advertisers through an e- commerce system so that the Web site's owner will not have to worry about any technical issues or on how to collect the fees requested for the advertisement space made available (as shown in Fig. 3).
[0015] While the advertising space is offered for sale at the price requested by the owner through the SOAR Engine, the Web site's owner will be able to display the Web site's regular advertisement.
[0016] This will allow the Web site owner to obtain the most revenue for the advertising space offered by him/her without risking to lose the regular advertising revenue generated from his / her Web site.
[0017] Another method offered by the Soar Engine to determine the best source of advertising revenue is that the Soar Engine system also allows the Web site's owner to manage and compare different sources of advertisements and revenue by displaying the advertisement from each source on the owner's Web site, one at the time and for a specific period of time (as shown in Fig. 4) and at the same time the Soar Engine analyzes the revenue generated for each source of advertisement so that a proper comparison can be made to determine which source of advertisement can generate a greater revenue for the Web site for the same period of time.
[0018] Once this is determined, the Soar Engine can automatically display on the owner's Web site the source of advertising that can generate the most revenue.
[0019] Additionally, the Soar Engine system on a web server collects and provides statistics and reports to the Web site owner and to advertisers and potential advertisers to compare advertising space value between different Web sites to determine competitive marketing strategies for a owner's Web site advertising spaces and effective media planning data for advertisers. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[0020] FIG. 1 illustrates the process for a Web site owner's to obtain a personalized software code to be inserted on his /her Web site.
[0021] FIG. 2 illustrates the general architecture of the system to determine the best source of advertising revenue for a Web site.
[0022] FIG. 3. illustrates the general architecture of the system to collect the fees requested by the Web site's owner from an advertiser and the process to accumulate these fees in different accounts for each Web site's owner so that the collected fees (minus a fix managing fee) can be send to the Web site's owner at his / her request.
[0023] FIG. 4 illustrates the general architecture of the system to display advertisements from different sources one at the time for a specific period of time to compare which source of advertisement can generate the most revenue for the Web site.
BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
The best mode for carrying out the invention is to utilize this invention over the Internet where the invention can offer a solution to Web site's owners to the problem of determining the best source of advertising revenue for their web sites.
