Abstract

A confectionery dispenser comprising a container for holding confectionery such as jellybeans, the container (10) being made from an edible material, such as chocolate. In a preferred embodiment, the container comprises an aperture such that the confectionery can be removed from the container by shaking the dispenser. The aperture (11) can comprise a puncturable cover (12), made from chocolate, for example.

Description

Confectionery dispenser
The present invention relates to confectionery dispensers and in particular to confectionery dispensers comprising an edible container.
Traditionally, confectionery is factory-packed in a box, tub, bag, sleeve or tube for purchase by the end consumer. Confectionery with a long shelf-life can alternatively be stored by retailers in multi-use dispensers. For example, 'pick and mix' sweets are stored in bulk in dispensers and individual portions are selected and packaged by the consumer. More recently, pre-packaged mini-dispensers have been developed for purchase by end consumers. Mini-dispensers are loaded with confectionery that can be dispensed, sweet- by-sweet, after purchase.
Multi-use dispensers often comprise a simple lidded box, with a scoop for extracting confectionery stored within the box. Mechanical multi-use dispensers are also known, in which a user-operated mechanism expels a sweet, for example, from the dispenser. Mini- dispensers are usually small, single-use products that can be simple or mechanical. For example, mechanical mini-dispensers in the shape of reindeer are known. Dispensers are conventionally made from durable plastics materials.
The present invention aims to provide an improved single-use mini-dispenser for storing and dispensing confectionery.
According to the present invention there is provided a confectionery dispenser comprising a container for holding confectionery and dispensing means for dispensing, in use, confectionery stored within the container, wherein the container is substantially edible.
In the preferred embodiment, the dispensing means comprises an aperture, such that, in use, confectionery is removable from the container through the aperture by shaking the dispenser.
In one embodiment, the aperture is sealable by means of a tab. In an alternative embodiment, the aperture is sealed by means of a puncturable cover. Preferably, the puncturable cover is made from chocolate. Suitably, the container is made substantially from chocolate. The stored confectionery can be jelly beans, chocolate or chocolate-covered peanuts or raisins, for example.
In certain preferred embodiments, the container has the shape of an animal, such as a penguin.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example only and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a front and rear view of an embodiment of a confectionery dispenser in accordance with the present invention;
Figure 2 is a rear view of the embodiment of Figure 1 in use; and
Figure 3 is a rear view of an alternative embodiment of a confectionery dispenser in accordance with the present invention. With reference to Figure 1 , there is illustrated a confectionery dispenser having a container
10 and an aperture 11. Container 10 is a hollow body in the shape of a penguin. Aperture
11 is positioned in a rear wall of the hollow body. Container 10 is formed entirely from chocolate. Sealing aperture 11 is a puncturable cover 12. Cover 12 is a thin film of chocolate that can, in use, be punctured by finger pressure from a user.
With reference to Figure 3, there is illustrated a confectionery dispenser having a container 10 and an aperture 11 in a rear wall. Aperture 11 is covered by a tab 14. Tab 14 is pivotally secured to container 10 and, in use, can be lifted to expose aperture 11. Tab 14 is made from an edible material or from a plastics material.
In use, confectionery is pre-filled inside container 10. For example, container 10 can contain jelly beans, boiled sweets, chocolates or chocolate-covered peanuts or raisins, or any similar-sized confection. In order to remove the confectionery from container 10 for consumption, aperture 11 is exposed by the user. In the embodiment of Figure 1 , aperture 11 is exposed by puncturing cover 12. In the embodiment of Figure 3, aperture 11 is exposed by opening tab 14. Once aperture 11 is exposed, the user shakes container 10 and confectionery falls through aperture 11 under gravity - as illustrated in Figure 2. In addition to the confectionery, container 10, which is made from chocolate, can also be consumed by the user. In this way, the dispenser generates minimal packaging waste.
In alternative embodiments, container 10 can be made from any suitable edible material.
