Definitions

  • the present disclosure relates to telecommunications.
  • the present disclosure relates to the augmentation of broadcast television content with content received over a wireless network.
  • Patent Application US 2004/0249726 describes a method of making financial transactions using a satellite TV connection as well as a connection to the internet in order to redirect inquiries and payments to the vendor. It requires specialized hardware which is specific to the television service provider.
  • Patent Application US 2002/0157101 describes a one way system that enables the viewer to request additional information about the program the viewer is watching. For example, if the program being watched is sports, scores and statistics related to the sporting event are provided in real time. However, it does not allow the viewer to exchange information or interact with the program. It also requires additional hardware and is specific to the service provider.
  • Patent Application US 2008/0263619 describes a system which also requires specialized hardware, namely a specialized system decoder which receives the television broadcast signal along with enhanced content.
  • the enhanced content is received and stored at the decoder and is displayed according to a timer value which was received along the enhanced content.
  • the present system overcomes these and other deficiencies of the prior art by providing enhanced content functionality for which no specialized hardware is needed, and which is independent of any television service provider.
