Description

1 Title: "ARRANGEMENT APPLIED TO ASHTRAY,
2 COLLECTOR AND THE LIKE"
3 The present invention refers to an unpublished environmental
4 education project for smokers, which has as its object an ashtray to collect
5 butts and ashes originating from the cigarette smoking. It consists of a
6 rectangular package provided with internal side recesses forming rails for
7 fitting the main body, which is comprised by a compartment for storage of δ cigarette ashes where there is a cylindrical shaped elevation that serves as 9 support to extinguish the cigarette butts, a holder to support cigarettes and0 a plate supplied with several holes where the butts are fitted in.
1 The present object is intended to properly store the waste2 produced by smokers, in organized and eco-friendly manner, because both3 the cigarette ashes and butts will no longer be thrown on street and4 avenue grounds, but stored in a proper place for their further recycling.s The environmental education project for smokers is aimed at6 educating and making the smoker aware of the need of selectively and7 properly collecting the waste he/she produces through the cigaretteδ smoking, enabling the economic utilization of such waste, generating jobs9 and income for thousands of people, in addition to contributing for the0 preservation and cleanness of nature. Through the recycling of this waste,1 tons of recycled paper may be produced, avoiding the cut of thousands of trees. Efficient collection will contribute to clean the nature from smokers'3 waste and ensure sustainability of the planet's resources, improving the life quality of its inhabitants. To generate wealth with such waste and reduce the pecuniary damages it causes, it is necessary to develop an effective,6 systematic and ongoing collection of such waste, which will be used as raw material by industries that produce recycled paper, because, without a8 sustainable collection that ensures the ongoing operation of such industries, this project will not be viable and a major wealth will be lost, since cigarette butts are biodegradable and will be lost in nature within a period ranging from one to two years.
The collector idealized for the first phase of the project is a type of pocket ashtray that the smoker should always carry with him to package the butts and ashes produced by the consumption of a pack of cigarettes. The proposed model has two utilities: of serving as a simple pocket ashtray and of selectively collecting the cigarette waste to be used as raw material by paper recycling industries.
This pocket ashtray has preferably a rectangular shape, manufactured in metal (tinned sheet iron, tinplate, aluminum and the like), provided with side rails in its internal walls that fit into channels of the internal body, supplied with an ashtray-type compartment with lid to store the ashes, a holder to support the cigarette and a plate with several holes where the smoked cigarette butts are fitted in.
This package is provided with a lid and educative, advertising and promotional messages, external marks or decorations.
The user must throw all the waste stored in this package in the empty cigarette pack so that, in a second phase, this waste is collected and sent to a recycling company. The waste resulting from the consumption of a pack of cigarettes consists of: cellophane and metallized papers and seal removed at the time the pack is opened, 20 cigarette butts, the ashes, which should be disposed of in the cellophane paper that encases the lower part of the pack (which, when removed, is transformed into a kind of little cellophane bag) to prevent it from mixing with the other waste, the empty pack with the paper that encased the cigarettes of the pack.
In this second phase, the smoker will be instructed to dispose of the cigarette packs containing the whole waste he/she produced in special collectors that will be spread at several cigarette points-of-sale across the country, waiting for their removal by the recycling industries.
The special collectors are a kind of garbage bin built with double structure. The internal structure, which fits into and is supported by the external structures, was designed with handles to facilitate its handling and with limiter spaces to receive only the cigarette packs, to avoid that other waste is thrown in there. The double structure helps to contain the smell of this type of waste, which, despite being packed in the cigarette packs, may still exhale its odor in the environment. Each compartment has capacity to receive up to 10 cigarette packs (1 carton of cigarettes, which has 10 packs, standing up). The collector has 60 compartments and can store 600 packs containing all the smoker's waste, about 9.5 kg, and also a compartment reserved for the businessman to store the packages of the 60 cartons, about 0.5 kg. The collector has capacity to store in organized manner 10 kg waste produced by consumption of 60 cartons of cigarettes. Both the internal and external structure of this collector can be manufactured in metal or plastic material. The internal structure of the collector may have a closed bottom or not. If it is closed, one of the options is that internal part works as a kind of crate, which may be removed and piled up during the transportation to the collecting company or to the recycling industry. The waste goes organized, what facilitates its handling. Another option is that the bottom of the internal structure is hollow. In this case, it will be necessary to place the internal structure of the collector inside a plastic waste bag that encases it completely before it is fitted into the external structure, because, at the moment the collector is emptied, it will only be necessary to remove the internal structure with the aid of the handles, so that the packs fell into the bag, avoiding the waste to fell or scatter around the floor. The waste bag containing the packs that were stored in the compartments of the internal collector portion would be contained by the external structure avoiding the waste from scattering around. If this is the industrialization option, as a matter of cost or operation capability, waste would be removed by collecting companies or recycling industries in waste bags, or the collectors (with bottom) would be simply removed and their contents discharged in garbage containers or in the body of carrier vehicles. The idea to collect the waste in a manner as organized as possible to avoid the smell and preserve its quality until arrival at the recycling company.
For a perfect view and understanding of the "ARRANGEMENT APPLIED TO ASHTRAY, COLLECTOR AND THE LIKE' in question, below are the illustrative drawings, where:
