Abstract

The present invention relates to a thermal insulator for molten metal, wherein a molten metal is insulated by using a carbonized product produced using sewage sludge discharged from a sewage-treatment plant. The thermal insulator for molten metal according to the present invention is characterised in that a starting material consisting of sewage sludge, which is an organic sludge, is subjected to drying, pulverization and forming, and then to carbonization. This procedure makes it possible to obtain, at low cost, an insulator which has outstanding heat-retaining properties and which is used in order to prevent reduction in temperature and prevent oxidation in the melt, and is also helpful in solving the environmental problems associated with incineration and landfill which occur in the disposal of waste.
