Definitions
- the present invention relates to US Patent Application 10/553,926 entitled “Method of providing voicemails to a wireless information device", Doulton (hereinafter “Doulton”), which provided a method for transcribing the content of a voicemail message into a text message which is then transmitted to the intended recipient by telephonic means (such as SMS or MMS) or via the internet (such as e-mail). Doulton further describes a method by which the recipient of the transcribed text message could access the applicable transcribed voicemail message.
- the present invention expands on the concept in Doulton of a method by which the recipient of the transcribed text message could access the applicable voicemail message.
- the transcribed text message contains a communication link that provides communication functionality to the recipient of the transcribed text message.
- the transcribed text message itself can be of any format or protocol such as SMS, MMS, WAP or similar text message using telecommunication based protocols, or an e-mail, HTML, XML or similar text message using internet based protocols.
- the communication link provides two communication functionalities.
- the first communication functionality is the ability for the recipient of the transcribed text message to listen to the voice message or other similar audio recording related to the transcribed text message.
- the second communication functionality provides the recipient the ability to send an electronic text message to a designated recipient, such as the originator of a voice message or audio recording related to the transcribed text message received by the recipient. Accordingly both communication links can be present in a single electronic text message.
- Fig. 1 is a depiction of the display on the recipient's device showing text message and the communication link.
- Fig. 2 is a diagram showing the initiation process in the Reply function.
- Fig. 3 is a diagram showing the reply process in the Reply function.
- the communication link is to a telephone number, network voice shortcode, or other similar identifier or DDI, such as 12345xx or +4420721712xx, which can be dialed directly from within the transcribed text message.
- DDI network voice shortcode
- the communication link takes the form of a number that the recipient of the electronic text message can dial from within the message and in an embodiment of the current invention the communication links normally appear at the end of electronic text messages.
- the reply functionality to operate the system needs to be initiated by the caller, with the caller and the recipient allowing their caller identity numbers to be accessible to the appropriate systems.
- the originator needs to phone a recipient who has a voice message service being capable of attaching a phone number or other similar identifier (DDI) from a dedicated pool of phone numbers or identifiers (DDI Reply Pool).
- DCI phone number or other similar identifier
- FIG. 2 the initiation process of the Reply function is performed as follows: 1 The voice message is recorded by a PBX or other similar system.
- the voice message is then sent to the voice to text conversion system.
- a first DDI i.e. a phone number or similar identifier
- a set pool of phone numbers known as the DDI Reply Pool
- the details of the reply communication link are then stored. They include the caller ID (or similar identifiers) of both parties, the conversion that was created and the first DDI that was assigned.
- the recipient dials the DDL 2
- the PBX (or similar system) checks the relationship between the recipient's caller
- the details of the new reply communication link are then stored. They include the numbers of both parties, the conversion that was created and the second DDI that was assigned.
- a reply loop has been created between the original caller and the recipient as a result of the pair of reply communication links.
- the first and second DDIs would be provided accordingly instead of a new DDI being sourced from the Reply Pool. This loop would continue until DDI recycling becomes necessary.
- an embodiment of the current invention are randomly allocates the first DDI that has not previously been allocated to that user. Once all available DDIs have been allocated then the system will recycle them. In an embodiment of the current invention the record to be recycled will be selected based on timestamp. The oldest record will be the first to be recycled. Once recycled the old record is overwritten and can no longer be referenced.
- any conversion is processed through it has the ability to allocate a Listen communication link.
- This communication link is normally included with the resulting user communication.
- the format of the Listen communication link can be in any appropriate format, such as an SMS sent to the recipient's handset, an email account or a designated 3 rd party blog identified within the recipient's voice message processing system.
- This listen communication link allows the recipient to simply dial the provided number (DDI) and hear the message that was recorded. In all cases the recipient must dial the DDI number from their mobile phone number that is stored within their voice message processing system. This function prevents unknown individuals accessing someone else's voicemail message.
- a caller dials a recipient's handset and if not answered is transferred to a PBX or other similar voice message processing system.
- the voice message processing system records a voice message from the caller.
- the recipient calls the number from the receiving handset.
- the PBX or similar system searches for the recipient's caller ID number and Listen DDI in the database tracking table. 3 If found the message details are retrieved and the voice message is played.
- the caller can call the Listen DDI an unlimited number of times until the DDI record is recycled.
- DDIs used for listen communication links are stored in pools grouped by region. Each DDI can be mapped to multiple recipients. In the current embodiment the number od DDIs per Listen pool is 100. For this reason in the embodiment of the current invention Listen DDIs are allocated in ascending order beginning at 1 and ending at 99. Once all DDIs have been allocated to a recipient the system will start recycling older DDIs. The number to recycle is chosen by the age of the listen mapping with the oldest record being replaced. In an alternative embodiment of the invention more than one message can be associated to a single Listen DDI using the chronological order of the voice messages received. For example in activating a Listen communication link the recipient would first listen the last message allocated to the Listen DDI, followed by an previous messages in chronological order that are also associated to the Listen DDL
