Abstract
The subject invention provides for the administration of syndyphalin-33 (SD33; Tyr- DMet (o)-Gly-methylphenylethylamide), or compositions thereof, to animals for the management of stress response (e.g., shipping fever in cattle or cachexia and/adaptation/stress management in companion or exotic animals) within the animals. The subject invention also provides methods of improving young animal survival comprising the administration of SD33 to young animals prior to weaning. Another aspect of the invention provides methods of increasing the numbers of immune effector cells in an animal comprising the administration of SD33 to young animals. Additional aspects of the invention also include methods of reducing the severity of enteric infections in young animals.
