Description
MODULAR SUPPORT STRUCTURE WITH VARIABLE COMPOSITION FOR INHABITED AMBIENTS OF VARIOUS KIND
The present invention refers to a variable-composition modular support structure for living spaces and environments of various kind, which is easy and quick to assemble and capable of being adapted to support living spaces and environments of any kind, shape and size.
In residential buildings in general, it is a widespread habit to have cabinets and furniture pieces of the most varied kind arranged in the desired positions in the various rooms according to fixed wall-mount or floor-mount installation schemes with the use of fastening means of a basically traditional type, thereby setting up the different living arrangements so that the related furniture products will not need to be moved from the various fixed-installation positions thereof.
In these circumstances, should it for any reason be required or desired for the set-up and/or the disposition, i.e. composition of the products used in living environments to be changed, e.g. through the addition, the replacement or the removal of one or more such products, the need would in any case arise for certain appropriate operations to be carried out on the products involved, by keeping them in and/or partially or fully 'moving them off the. initial fixed-installation positions thereof, while arranging the possible substitute products in their place and/or placing all or part of the existing products in other fixed- installation positions by making use of new fastening means and carrying out further installation work to this purpose.
Further to proving quite laborious and expensive, this manner of arranging and setting up products of various kind to create living spaces and environments requires specific work to be done in view of completing the necessary fixed wall-mount or floor-mount
installation of the related products, and it also is scarcely adapted to allow for modifications to be possibly made - if required or desired - in the arrangement or set-up of the installed products making up a given living environment.
It would therefore be desirable, and it is the object of the present invention, actually, to do away with the above-noted problems connected with the prior art, so as to be able to most easily and quickly alter the disposition and the composition or set-up of furniture pieces of various kind in living spaces and environments at will, without any need arising for special work to be done in view of the fixed installation of the products involved.
According to the present invention, this aim is reached in a modular variable- composition support structure for living spaces and environments of various kinds, which is embodied to incorporate such features and characteristics as they are substantially described with particular reference to the appended claims.
Features and advantages of the present invention may anyway be more readily understood from the description that is given below by way of non-limiting example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
- Figure 1 is a perspective front view of a modular variable-composition support structure according to the present invention, as viewed in the assembled state thereof, in a first construction set-up according to a first embodiment thereof;

- Figure 8 is a plan view of a support structure as shown in Figure 3, in which there are installed other types of furniture pieces;
- Figure 9 is a front elevational view of the support structure and the furniture pieces shown in Figure 8 ;
- Figure 10 is a plan view of the support structure according to the present invention, as viewed in the assembled state thereof, in a third construction set-up according to a third embodiment thereof, in which there are installed some types of furniture pieces;
- Figure 11 is a plan view of the support structure as shown in Figure 3, in which there are installed other types of furniture pieces;
- Figure 12 is a plan view of a support structure as shown in Figure 1 , as viewed in the assembled state and a fourth construction set-up thereof, in which there are installed some types of furniture pieces.
Illustrated schematically in the above-listed Figures is a modular variable-composition support structure 5 according to the present invention, which is able to be easily and quickly set up in living spaces and environments of various kind, and is further adapted to allow the disposition and the composition or set-up of furniture pieces of various kind in living spaces and environments to be modified at will, without any need arising for special work to be done in view of the fixed installation of the products involved. Shown in Figure 1 is a modular support structure 5 according to the invention, in a first embodiment and a
first construction set-up thereof, in which no furniture piece or similar article of any kind is installed as yet. This modular support structure can be installed in a room, a hall, or any other or similar space, especially of residential buildings, which is intended to accommodate furniture and/or other equipment pieces of various kind due to be installed therein in a variable number and arrangement thereof.
From the illustration appearing in such Figure it can be noticed that the modular support structure is substantially comprised of a set of identical upright columns 6 provided in a mutually spaced arrangement according to different set-up schemes, and made of a rigid metal material, synthetic resins, or any other suitable rigid material of either natural or man-made origin, to any desired shape and size, wherein four cylindrical columns 6 having a given diameter and height are shown in the considered example, which are set up in a mutually spaced arrangement duly aligned with each other so as to form a square configuration, but which can also be provided in any different number, shape, size and set-up than the illustrated ones. At the lower, mutually facing portions thereof, these upright columns 6 are joined to each other via at least a raised floor 7, which is fastened between the various columns with the aid of joining means largely known as such in the art, thereby defining the lower or bottom sides of the thus formed geometrical figure, i.e. a square in the exemplary embodiment considered, and further delimiting a planar upper floor 8 for the various cabinets and furniture pieces to be installed thereupon as required. At the upper, mutually facing portions thereof, the upright columns 6 are furthermore joined to each other via upper rigid rectilinear crosspieces 9 that are secured between the various columns with the aid of joining means largely known as such in the art, thereby defining this time the upper sides of the same geometrical figure, wherein these upper sides are spaced vertically from the corresponding lower sides by such an extent as to allow both people to gain access into the space of the living environment defined by these component
parts, and the various cabinets, furniture pieces and the like to be installed within the same space.
Each modular support structure provided in this manner is self-supporting and is intended for installation, i.e. adapted to be installed in any room, hall, space or similar living unit of residential buildings, in which it can be easily and quickly set up by assembling all component parts making up the same structure together to ultimately stay firmly in position due to its own weight. Upon having been assembled and set up in this manner, the modular support structure is then capable of supporting all the various cabinets and furniture pieces due to be installed in the concerned space of the residential building, as may each time be desired or required, and these cabinets and furniture pieces will in this case be placed upon the planar upper floor 8 of the structure being considered, in the desired arrangement, and finally secured - with the aid of traditional joining means - onto the same floor and/or even against the upper crosspieces 9 and/or against any vertical wall that might possibly be fixed between the raised floor 7 and the upper crosspieces 9, or may even not be fastened at all. In this way, thanks to the thus provided movable modular support structure, the cabinets and furniture pieces can be installed in the various spaces of the residential buildings without any need arising for fixed wall-mount or floor-mount installations to be provided, thereby doing also away with the need for all related installation work to be carried out - unlike what may be generally considered as being the current practice. In addition, this also enables the arrangement, set-up and/or the composition of the products used in the living spaces and environments to be modified at any time, if desired or required, by just having the support structure disassembled and then assembled again, without any installation work having to be carried out directly in the building itself. In each living module formed by the support structure provided in this way, the raised
floor 7 may further be provided with two or more access steps 10 on any lower side thereof, wherein each such step may or may not incorporate a related pull-out drawer 11 , whereas also the upper crosspieces 9 may or may not incorporate related pull-out drawers 12 for storing items of various kind therein, and may even be shaped in the form of open top surfaces 13 for items of various kind to be laid thereupon, which may be possibly provided with appropriate boxes, and are further provided to extend at a height that does not exceed the height of the upright columns 6, so as to be accessible to, i.e. reachable by people from all sides of the support structure.
The upright columns 6 are in turn placed to rest with the lower portions or bases 14 thereof against the floor, and are provided in a minimum number of three columns for each support structure, wherein such number is variable depending on the type and the size, i.e. the greatest possible perimeter of the support structure to be set up each time.
These columns may further be provided in shapes differing from the afore-considered cylindrical one, i.e. in a round, elliptical, polygonal and similar shape, and may also be provided with inner compartments or receptacles for holding items of various kind, which will in this case be accessible via lids or doors 15 hinged thereto.
In addition, the modular support structures made in the above-described manner may also be hemmed in - on one or several sides thereof - by railings or banisters (not shown) made of various materials, or even rope railings made of natural or synthetic fibres of any kind. There may be also provided curtains of various kind and nature, which may also cover the ceiling and are fastened on to one or more sides of the living module, in view of increasing living comfort. Moreover, each living module may also be provided with swivelled wheels, as duly provided with locking means and made of any suitable material, in view of enabling the arrangement of the module in the room to be varied, if desired or required, without any need arising for the same module to be first disassembled.
In the following Figures 2 through to 12, some possible embodiments of the modular support structure according to the present invention are illustrated by mere way of illustrative non-limiting example, along with some exemplary arrangements and set-ups of the same structure. Illustrated in Figure 2 is a modular support structure in the first above- described embodiment thereof, i.e. comprised of four cylindrical upright columns 6 in a square-shaped set-up, in which there are installed furniture pieces that are typical of a playroom for adults, such as for instance a billiard 16, a table tennis game 17, some chairs 18 or other kinds of outfit belonging to such places.
Shown in Figure 3 is a modular support structure in a second embodiment thereof, which includes again four upright columns 6 that are arranged again in a square-shaped set-up, but have a square-shaped cross-section this time, in which there are installed furniture pieces 19 that are typical of a bedroom for children.
Illustrated in Figure 4 is a modular support structure having the same shape and in the same set-up as shown in Figure 2, in which there are installed furniture pieces 20 that are typical of a small church or chapel.
Figure 5 illustrates a modular support structure having the same shape and in the same set-up as shown in Figure 3, in which there are installed furniture pieces 21 that are typical of a living or sitting room.
Figure 6 illustrates a modular support structure having the same shape and in the same set-up as shown in Figure 1 , in which there are installed furniture pieces and outfit 22 that are typical of a massage room. Illustrated in Figure 7 is a modular support structure having the same shape and in the same set-up as shown in Figure 3, in which there are installed furniture pieces and outfit 23 that are typical of a suitably equipped graphic studio.
Illustrated in Figures 8 and 9 is a modular support structure having the same shape and in the same set-up as shown in Figure 3, in which there are installed furniture pieces and
equipment 24 that are typical of a combined kitchen plus dinette.
Shown in Figure 10 is a modular support structure in a third embodiment thereof and in a third set-up scheme, in which use is made of only three columns 6, of which two are square-shaped and one is cylindrical, and which are arranged in a triangular pattern this time, in which there are installed furniture pieces and instruments 25 that are typical of a concert hall. Figure 11 illustrates a modular support structure having the same shape and in the same set-up as shown in Figure 3, in which there is installed a double bed 26.
Finally, Figure 12 illustrates a modular support structure in a fourth set-up scheme thereof, of the same type as the one shown in Figure 1, but doubled, i.e. in a double size as compared therewith, and comprised of six cylindrical upright columns 6, in which there are installed furniture pieces and outfit 27 as needed in a conference hall, a reading room, or the like.
It shall be appreciated that modular support structures according to the present invention are not limited to the exemplary embodiments described above, but may rather be also embodied in any different shape, size and set-up scheme as desired or required, using the same construction and design principles as set forth hereinbefore, and are further adapted to be easily and quickly modified in view of providing further structures of this kind, for installation in any living space of residential buildings and hold and support furniture pieces, outfit, equipment and products of any kind whatsoever, without this implying any departure from the scope of the present invention.
