Mode for the Invention
[32] Reference will be now made in detail to the preferred embodiment of the present invention with reference to the attached drawings.
[33] FIG. 1 is a plan view of multi-functional spectacles according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, FIG. 2 is a bottom view of the multi-functional spectacles, FIG. 3 is a left side view of the multi-functional spectacles, FIG. 4 is a right side view of the multi-functional spectacles, and FIG. 5 is a block diagram showing a circuit configuration of the multi-functional spectacles.
[34] The present invention relates to spectacles, which are worn using temples 12, and the temples 12 constitute a frame 10 together with a part for supporting lenses. The temples 12 may be formed integrally with the frame 10 or joined to the frame 10 in a collapsible structure via hinges interposed between the temples 12 and the frame. The present invention needs reliability rather than complexity since the spectacles according to the present invention are manufactured for leisure use.
[35] The frame 10 further includes an antenna 15 mounted on one of the temples 12. The antenna 15 may be mounted unitedly or independently for receiving GPS, wireless communication, and radio broadcasting, which will be described later. The temples 12 are made of non-conductive material, such as resin material, in consideration of circuit wiring, and the antenna 15 is mounted on the temple 12 in such a way as to be sunken to a proper depth.
[36] Furthermore, according to the present invention, an auxiliary wire 20 is detachably and electrically connected to one end of the frame 10. The auxiliary wire 20 is an electric wire, detachably mounted to a rear end of the frame 10, and electrically connected with an internal circuit. If the auxiliary wire 20 is attached to the temple 12 of the spectacles, it may serve as a band to prevent a slip-down of the spectacles during outdoor activities.
[37] Moreover, the multi-functional spectacles further include inputting means 30 mounted on the frame 10 and having a microphone 32 and a manipulation button 35. The microphone 32 is mounted in such a way as to downwardly extend at the central portion of the temple 12 of the frame 10, and may mounted on the temple 12 through the general structure or through a bone conduction method. The button 35 for manipulating a selection of functions is mounted in such a way as to be exposed to the upper face of the temple 12. In order to reduce the number of the buttons, it is preferable that the input is processed in a software manner. The button 35 controls actions related with GPS reception, wireless communication, and radio broadcasting reception. In addition, a display part (which has no reference numeral in drawings) is constructed of an LCD, and indicates not only a radio reception state but also a GPS reception state and a wireless communication state when the multi-functional spectacles are used for the GPS reception and the wireless communication.
[38] Furthermore, the spectacles include a power module 40 mounted on the frame 10 for receiving a battery 42 therein. While the battery 20 of all kinds can be used if it can be received in the power module 40, it is good to select one of rechargeable batteries.
[39] The power module 40 can be connected with a solar cell 45, which is mounted on the frame 10 in such a way as to be exposed. The solar cell 45 is exposed to the outside at a wider portion of the temple 12 to thereby receive light of the sun smoothly. With regard for emergencies, the power module 40 uses the battery 42 with the solar cell 45.
[40] In this instance, the auxiliary wire 20 is connected with the power module 40 at one end thereof through a connector 22 and includes a detachable jack 25 disposed at the other end thereof. The connector 22, which is mounted at a portion where the auxiliary wire 20 and the temple 12 of the frame 10 are connected with each other, has a function as a hook to keep a binding force. The connector 22, which is constructed of an electric wire, constitutes an electric power circuit in such a way as to be connected with the power module 40. The jack 25 detachably connected to the central point of the auxiliary wire 20 is in a separated state ordinarily, but is connected to an external power supply (not shown) to thereby receive electric power when electric power is insufficient.
[41] Moreover, the spectacles according to the present invention further include outputting means 50 mounted on the frame 10 and having an earphone or a speaker 52 and an LED lamp 55. The speaker 52 of the outputting means 50 is mounted downwardly at the central portion of the temple 12 like the microphone 32, and outputs a voice signal to the earphone or the speaker 52, which is connected from the outside. That is, the earphone (which has no reference numeral in the drawings) may be inserted into the outputting means 50, so that only a user can listen, or a wire connected with an external speaker is inserted into the outputting means 50, so that the voice signal of a play part can be outputted to the outside. The LED lamp 55 selects a low-power and high-brightness manner, and is mounted in such a way as to face forward at both side ends of the frame 10.
[42] The microphone 32 and the speaker 52 do not exclude a design of the bone conduction manner, but if the bone conduction manner is selected, it may cause an error due to an increase of complexity in the circuit structure.
[43] In the meantime, the earphone is formed in such a way as to protrude from the frame
10, has a recess (not shown) for allowing the earphone to be fixed on a holder (which has no reference numeral), and is constructed of a flexible form so that it is expandable. That is, while the earphone is separated from the earphone holder when the user uses the earphone, the recess of the earphone is fit and fixed to the earphone holder when the user does not use it. Accordingly, the user can easily and beautifully store the earphone.
[44] In addition, the spectacles according to the present invention include controlling means 60 for treating an outside wireless signal and sending it to the outputting means 50 according to the selection of the inputting means 30. The controlling means 60 is constructed of one substrate and can be molded on the temple 12. In this instance, the controlling means 60 is molded on the temple in consideration of weight distribution in such a way as to prevent a transformation due to unbalance in weight of the right and left temples 12.
[45] The controlling means 60 includes: a GPS module 62 for converting a GPS signal into a voice signal; a wireless communication module 64 for sending and receiving wireless data to and from a digital device; and a radio receiving module 66 for receiving AM or FM over-the-air broadcasting. The GPS module 62 receives a signal of a base station and transfers it to a processor of the controlling means 60. In GPS signal processing, if an additional display is added, since it decreases utilizability of the spectacles, the GPS signal is converted into the voice signal and outputted to the speaker 52. A short-distance wireless communication is to send and receive information by wireless within a range of 100m at a distance in straight line, and is divided into an infrared ray (IR) manner and a radio frequency (RF) manner.
[46] The RF manner, such as Bluetooth, Zigbee, and so on, is adequate for the wireless communication module 64. RF is operated omnidirectionally, and keeps a proper sensitivity since it has an obstacle such as a wall. In an aspect of a simplification of the structure, it is preferable that the radio receiving module 66 is fixed to radio broadcasting specified in AM or FM, but it may include a tuning dial mounted on the button 35 to allow various selections. Of course, in case of the former case, the AM or FM broadcasting is fixed to a channel for providing information of weather. The selection of AM or FM broadcasting can depend on the buttons 35.
[47] Referring to FIGS. 1 to 5, the operation of the multi-functional spectacles will be described. Ordinarily, the user can select not only the general function as the spectacles but also the functions of the GPS module 62, the wireless communication module 64, and the radio receiving module 66 using the button 35. Since the button 35 adopts the software-based inputting manner, function selections are changed whenever the user presses the button once. In case of emergency, the user can check the present position using the GPS module 62, communicate with companions using the wireless communication module 64, or check the weather conditions using the radio receiving module 66.
[48] Furthermore, if the user wants the radio reception, the user selects a radio receiving mode, and then, adjusts seeking of broadcasting stations using the button 35 to listen to wanted radio broadcasting. In this instance, the user listens to the radio broadcasting using the earphone or the speaker, and the display part indicates information of the radio reception, such as the selected radio broadcasting station.
[49] At night, the user can fit the auxiliary wire 20 to the end portions of the temples 12 to thereby prevent a slip-down of the spectacles, and then, turn on the LED lamp 55 to thereby correctly recognize surrounding situations. Of course, if voltage of the battery 42 is low, in order to recharge the battery 42, the connectors 22 of the auxiliary wire 20 are connected to the temples 12, and then, the jack 25 is connected to the external power supply.
[50] As described above, the multi-functional spectacles according to the present invention can allow the user to utilize the useful functions with little discomfort even though he or she wears the spectacles during outdoor activities, and cope with a change in the weather and emergencies smoothly.
[51] While the present invention has been described with reference to the particular illustrative embodiment, it is not to be restricted by the embodiment but only by the appended claims. It is to be appreciated that those skilled in the art can change or modify the embodiment without departing from the scope and spirit of the present invention.
