Definitions
- the invention relates to a piston pin for an internal combustion engine.
- Piston pins are used in internal combustion engines essentially the transmission of the movement of the piston to a connecting rod, the movement of which is in turn transmitted to the crankshaft. Relative movement occurs between the piston pin and the so-called pin bosses of the piston and / or the eye of the connecting rod. In order to reduce the fuel consumption, the friction is thus to be kept as low as possible in this area. Furthermore, it is always desirable to minimize wear and thereby reduce "predation".
- WO 2007/020139 A1 describes coatings for pistons and piston rings, which are designed as DLC layers and are always applied to the components mentioned by means of an intermediate layer. Further, the coatings may have a hydrogen content of 20 to 30 at% (atomic%).
- EP 1 783 349 A1 describes pistons, piston rings and piston pins with DLC coatings which have hydrogen contents of 20 to 40 at%. However, there is always a significant amount of silicon in the DLC layer.
- the invention has for its object to provide a piston pin, which is improved in terms of friction and wear properties.
- the DLC layer has a DLC layer of less than 1 at% of silicon and a hydrogen content of 20 at% or more and 65 at% or less. It has been found that with such a coating, the favorable frictional and wear properties of the DLC layer can be maintained even at elevated temperatures. It should be noted that the DLC coatings are also referred to as amorphous carbon layers. With regard to the hydrogen content, initial investigations show that the friction and wear behavior of the coatings at elevated temperatures is improved with increasing hydrogen content. Thus, these properties of a piston pin can be improved by the coating according to the invention, and the tendency to seizure can be reduced.
- the DLC coating is applied directly to the base material of the piston pin.
- an intermediate layer may also be provided between the DLC coating and the base material of the piston, piston ring or piston pin.
- the carbon-hydrogen compounds are more stable than the carbon-carbon bonds, especially at elevated temperatures.
- the binding interaction with the counter body so in the case of the piston pin with the pin bosses and / or the eye of the connecting rod, weakened, and the so-called anti-sticking behavior increases.
- the likelihood that the DLC layer will be graphitized decreases, which equates to decay of the DLC layer.
- initial investigations have shown that the hardness and the penetration modulus of the surface can be increased by the coating composition according to the invention.
- a piston or piston ring with such a coating in the case of the piston preferably on the piston skirt, is to be regarded as an object of the invention.
- a further improvement could also be found for a hydrogen content of more than 40 at%. It may be mentioned in this case that favorable properties of the DLC coating are also to be expected for silicon contents of 1 at.% Or more.

Description
Kolbenbolzen für einen Verbrennungsmotor
Technisches Gebiet
