Definitions
- the present provisional application relates to Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminals. More specifically, the present application relates to a LNG trans-shipment terminal with cryogenic tank storage.
- LNG Liquefied Natural Gas
- the significant regulations include providing specialty on-loading and off-loading devices. Moreover, such on-loading and off-loading devices are provided on terminals that are placed in very remote areas to minimize the potential for hazards. Such placement of the LNG terminals precludes the terminal from being next to load use centers requiring the influx of LNG. Thus, further transportation is needed for the re-gasified LNG, ultimately driving the delivered cost of natural gas (the re-gasified LNG) higher.
- a method to supply a customer with liquefied natural gas comprising steps of supplying a standard LNG vessel with liquefied natural gas at a desired temperature, transporting the standard LNG vessel to a delivery point, offloading the liquefied natural gas onto the terminal into a cryogenic tank storage arrangement, transferring the liquefied natural gas from the cryogenic tank storage arrangement to a cryogenic articulated barge and transferring the liquefied natural gas from the barge either directly to a consumer or to a pipeline.
- a method to supply a customer with liquefied natural gas comprising: supplying a standard LNG vessel with liquefied natural gas at a desired temperature, transporting the standard LNG vessel to a delivery point, offloading the liquefied natural gas onto a cryogenic articulated barge; and transferring the liquefied natural gas from the barge either directly to a consumer or to a pipeline.
- a method is presented above further comprising warming the liquefied natural gas from the barge before the step of transferring the liquefied natural gas from the barge either directly to a consumer or to a pipeline.
- a method as presented above may be accomplished further comprising warming the liquefied natural gas from the barge before the step of transferring the liquefied natural gas from the barge either directly to a consumer or to a pipeline. (NOTE if this application is about the terminal, why do we need this section on the barge?)
- Figure 1 is a drawing of a LNG terminal with cryogenic articulated barge in accordance with an embodiment of the invention.
- the LNG trans-shipment terminal 10 is configured to accept large and small vessels containing LNG.
- the LNG trans-shipment 10 is configured with a cryogenic tank system 12 attached to keep the LNG within the facility at an optimum temperature.
- the cryogenic tank system 12 may be configured with heaters and/or cooling apparatus to achieve the optimum material temperature needed.
- the LNG trans-shipment terminal 10 is also configured to accept cryogenic articulated barges 14.
- the cryogenic articulated barges 14 are shallow draft/low volume vessels that take LNG for delivery to customers.
- the delivery of the LNG may be directly to a consumer, such as a power plant or to a pipeline.
- LNG TERMINAL APPARATUS AND OPERATIONS are shallow draft/low volume vessels that take LNG for delivery to customers.
- the delivery of the LNG may be directly to a consumer, such as a power plant or to a pipeline.
- the LNG trans-shipment terminal 10 allows for offload onto small cryogenic articulated barges 14 thereby minimizing the risk of explosion due to the smaller amounts of materials involved.
- the cryogenic articulated barge 14 may also directly dock with a larger or "standard" LNG vessel.
- the cryogenic articulated barges 14 are configured with a draft of approximately 20 feet and a length of approximately 500 feet.
- the cargo hold for each individual barge 14 consists of four to six containers, each with a capacity of 5,000 to 7,500 m 3 .
- Storage temperatures for the cargo are maintained at _minus 260° F._
- the LNG transshipment terminal 10 is configured to allow multiple barges 14 to accept LNG transfer at one time or serially.
- the LNG trans-shipment terminal 10 in the example embodiment provided, can be moored in seas up to 500 feet in depth and withstand anticipated climactic variations such as wave action and hurricanes, as non- limiting examples.
- the LNG trans-shipment terminal 10 may also have a corresponding shore part that allows for the barge 14 to dock alongside the shore.
- the corresponding shore part 16 allows for individual barges 14 to be moored during off-load procedures.
- a standard LNG vessel may be used to download LNG to a barge 14.
- the standard LNG vessel is configured with a downloading system that interacts with the barge to transfer material to the hold of the barge 14.
- the barge 14 after receiving the transfer of material then transports the material to the shore part for offloading. On board the barge 14, the material in the hold may be warmed or cooled, as needed, to bring the material to the desired temperature.
