Definitions

  • a portable device having two or more fixing devices of the catch type for the fixing of at least one tube and/or at least one wire, and for a secure fastening to at least one surrounding body, as disclosed in patent claim 1.
  • a portable device for organising tubes and wires connected to medical equipment is disclosed in US Patent 6 382 568.
  • the insertion and removal of tubes and wires is carried out by opening and closing a lid on a substantially rectangular block by the use of separate hooks/straps.
  • a system of this kind for opening and closing the device is however quite time consuming and inconvenient when for example the system is operated by personnel wearing gloves and under a severe time pressure.
  • the object of this invention is to provide a portable device to be used for inserting and removing tubes and wires, primarily for medical equipment, in a rapid, simple and practical way.
  • Another object of the invention is to provide a portable device that rapidly, simply and practically can be mounted on surrounding implements or bodies.
  • the meaning of the expression “surrounding” or “nearby” implements or bodies " is any object positioned in the close vicinity of the tubes and wires to be fixed, namely objects like stands for IV, bedposts, frameworks for wheel chairs or similar.
  • a mounting of such a portable device on a wheel chair would considerably simplify the patient's mobility and make her/his movements more secure.
  • a third object of the invention is to provide a portable device where legends/marks can easily be applied on its surface by for example employing a commercially available drawing ink, at the same time making the removal of same fairly easy during standardised disinfection processes. In medical applications such removal of marks from the device of the invention therefore will not introduce additional work, as the disinfection is a compulsory step in the routine equipment handling.
  • a portable device comprising two or more fixing devices, here called catches and made such that each one can fix bodies in interior recesses of the device and without the need for any other externally mounted fixing mechanism, and at least one of said at least two catches being made for a secure fastening of the device itself in a specific position to at least one body surrounding it.
  • the interior recesses of said catches may have varying form and dimensions on one and the same device, and their form can be almost circular and/or substantially rectangular and may be manufactured according to the wish of the user.
  • the most appropriate recess form for a given purpose will strongly depend upon the type of application and the type of the surrounding body (bodies).
  • the form of the device itself is preferably fully or substantially circular, but also other forms are possible. To improve the stability of the device is recommended that it is thicker on the side used for the fixing to a surrounding body, such as a stand for IV, a bedpost or a table leg, a framework for a wheel chair, or similar.
  • An advantageous form of the device would therefore be of a substantial wedge form, for example a near circular wedge.
  • the entire said device is preferably made of a soft/resilient material, which will make the insertion and the removal of a body simpler and reduce cutting and wearing damage.
  • a soft/resilient material is preferably made of soft/resilient material, which will make the insertion and the removal of a body simpler and reduce cutting and wearing damage.
  • Another desired material property is the permanence of certain characteristic specifications, even after several standardised disinfection processes.
  • An example of such a material is soft plastic, for example synthetic rubber.
  • Figs. 1 (a) and (b) illustrate schematic cross-sections of a mainly circular device seen from above and from one side, respectively, and Fig. 2 depicts a three dimensional (3D) illustration of the device according to Fig. 1.
  • FIG. 1 (a) and (b) illustrates an embodiment where the device 1 has the form of a mainly circular wedge and comprises a number of fixing,o fastening or holding devices (in the following called catches) 3, 3'; 4; 5, 5'. These have entrance slots 3', 5' extending outward to the circumference 2 of the device 1.
  • the broken line marked A-A on Fig. 1 (a) denotes the cross-sectional axis for the side view of Fig. 1 (b).
  • the catches 3, 3'; 4; 5, 5' comprise — within their corresponding entrance slots 3', 5' — substantially circular interior recesses 3, 5 and substantially rectangulars recesses 4, of which the former type opens into the circumference 2 through a single slot 3', 5', while the latter type in the shown version is a set of parallel elongated recesses acting as grooves and forming into a comb-like shape.
  • An advantage of this latter embodiment is that a number of tubes/wires can be coiled/packed into separate slots. A holding or fastening in this way is convenient when a shortening of tubesG and/or wires is desired, without increasing the risk for any incidental and negligent detachment of connected equipments from bodies such as the body of a patient.
  • Fig. 1 illustrates only one catch 3, 3' dedicated to rapid mounting on a nearby body that may comprise: a stand for IV, a bedpost, a framework for a wheel chair, or similar.
  • said catch 3, 3' is arranged on the thickest portion of the device 1 which in this case takes the form of a flat plateau, to give extra stability when the catch is fastened to one or possibly two or more0 surrounding bodies.
  • the catch 3, 3' illustrated on Fig. 1 is made like a claw or clamp, so that the edge thereof is more easily deflected during the mounting.
  • Another embodiment of the device 1 comprises two or more catches 3, 3' enabling a rapid mounting on surrounding bodies, in addition to the plurality of catches5 4; 5, 5' for holding tubes and/or wires as described above.
  • the present invention has the advantage that one and the same device 1 can be fixed to bodies having, different dimensions, such as stands for IV and a bedpost, either separately or more than one at the same time.
  • the latter solution for mounting nr fa ⁇ tpnin ⁇ will nrnviHe fiirtlnar stability compared to the former embodiment.
  • the device according to the invention is suitable for organising/fastening tubes and wires for different applications, mainly within the medical equipment field for the treatment of patients. Further the device can be mounted rapidly, simply and practically on various surrounding bodies comprising stands for IV, bedposts and/or table legs, the framework for wheel chairs and similar items. Correct organising/fastening of tubes and/or wires is most important to ascertain that a patient is not suffering unnecessarily, to reduce the risk for any person and material damage due to for example negligent and occasional removal of tubes/hoses/wires, or that such objects are not hindering or obstructing medical personnel.
