Description

LED LUMINAIRE
Field of the invention
The object of this invention is a LED luminaire, which comprises a body and end flanges, and which luminaire comprises LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) fitted inside the body.
More particularly the object of this invention is a LED luminaire intended for damp spaces, in which luminaire LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) are fitted inside the body.
The body comprises a rigid end flange covering the end on at least the second end, which flange can be fixed to the end of the body with a fixing arrangement, and the edge of which end flange comprises a sealing ribbon, or a sealing film, of an elastic material for sealing the joint between the end flange and the body.
The body comprises sealing ribbons at a right angle to the end flange, for sealing.
One such luminaire comprises a transparent protective cover
(typically a glass plate) fitted onto the top end of the body, which protective cover is sealed at its edges to the top part of the body by means of elastic sealing ribbons. The sealing ribbon can also be sealing the different body parts to each other, when the body is formed of parts.
These types of LED luminaires are used particularly as outdoor luminaires to illuminate e.g. the surface of the exterior walls of buildings, of masonry walls or other such walls (so-called wall washer).
Prior art
In prior-art solutions, sealing ribbons are used that are for the most part the same length as the body. A problem with these prior-art luminaires is the weakening of the sealing over time, which causes in particular shrinking of the sealing ribbons between e.g. the body and the glass plate and the disengagement resulting from this, in which case the sealing ribbons no longer seal effectively between the flange and the body, but instead gaps remain between them, via which moisture can penetrate the luminaire.
In addition to this a widely used prior-art sealing method is the use of different adhesive substances and sealing substances, such as silicon compounds and polyurethane compounds. When using these types of substances, particularly adhesives, procedures for repairing the luminaire are awkward and almost without exception require servicing that takes place in the factory or a person that has received special training.
Summary of the invention
The purpose of this invention is to eliminate the drawbacks of prior art and to achieve a new type of LED luminaire, in which the seal between the body and the end flange is improved and made more efficient. In the luminaire according to the invention the sealing ribbons between the protective cover and the body or the body parts are lengthened compared to prior-art solutions, and in addition to this holes are made in the flange and in the seal of the flange in the corresponding points of the sealing ribbons between the body and the protective cover. In order to facilitate installation of the sealing ribbons between the body and the protective cover, the ends of the sealing ribbons are made to be beveled.
The characteristic features of the solution according to the invention are described in detail in claim 1 , and of its preferred embodiments in the other claims.
By means of the invention the sealing of especially LED luminaires intended for outdoor use and for other damp spaces can be clearly improved and also the assembly and opening of them can be made easier.
Additionally, the tolerances of the parts of the luminaire may be wider. For example, the glass can be to some extent, typically in the range of 1 mm, too short or correspondingly longer than the body profile, and the roundings of the corners of the glass can be relatively large. The sealing method according to the invention works, however, in both situations.
Short description of the drawings
In the following, the invention will be described in more detail by the aid of an embodiment with reference to the attached drawings, wherein Figs. 1 and 2 present an perspective explosion view of a LED luminaire according to the invention. Detailed description of preferred embodiments
Figs. 1 - 2 present a LED luminaire 100 intended for outdoor use, which is used to illuminate e.g. the surface of the exterior walls of buildings, of masonry walls or other such walls (so-called wall washer).
It comprises a profile-type rigid body 101 , e.g. of aluminum, which is essentially U-shaped in cross-section. LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) 102 (e.g. in the figure 6 units) are fitted inside it in one row, which LEDS are connected to a circuit board 103, which also comprises control electronics for controlling the luminaire and the electrical supply connection needed for the electricity supply e.g. from outside the luminaire.
The luminaire comprises a transparent protective cover 104
(typically a glass plate) to be fixed onto the top end of the body, which protective cover is threaded into the edge grooves 105, 106 in the profile and sealed at its edges to the top part of the body on both sides by means of elastic sealing ribbons 107, 108.
The body comprises a rigid end flange 109, 110, e.g. of plastic, covering the end on both ends, which end flange can be fixed to the end of the body with a fixing arrangement 111. A sealing film 112 of an elastic material is on the edges of both flanges, which sealing film passes around the whole edge and it seals the joint between the body, the protective cover and the end flange.
In the luminaire according to the invention the sealing ribbons 107,
108 between the protective cover and the body are essentially longer than the body and extend over the body at both ends, and in addition to this holes 113 are made in the seal of the flange in the corresponding points of the sealing ribbons between the body and the protective cover.
In addition holes 114 can be made in the flange in the corresponding points, into which the sealing ribbons can be threaded.
In order to facilitate installation of the sealing ribbons between the body and the protective cover, the ends 115 - 116 of the sealing ribbons can also be made to be beveled. In installation the ends are threaded through the apertures of the flange seal, after which the end flange (end cover) can be closed e.g. by screwing into position.
It is obvious to the person skilled in the art that the different embodiments of the invention are not limited solely to the example described above, but that they may be varied within the scope of the claims presented below. The LEDs can, of course, be in a number of rows if the lighting need so requires.
