Abstract

As compared to the extraterrestrial solar radiation energy out of the atmosphere, the extraterrestrial solar radiation energy on the ground has bands (such as the wavelengths around 1.4 μm and 1.9 μm) of reduced energy in the range of infrared light, i.e., in the wavelength range from 0.8μm to 2.4 μm. In such a band, there is no need of reflecting the sunlight and accordingly, it is possible to reduce the number of layers in the dielectric multi-layer film formed on the optical element. That is, the dielectric multi-layer film has at least one band where the reflectivity is not greater than 50 % within the range of the incident light having a wavelength in the range 0.8 μm to 2.4 μm, so as to reduce the film thickness and reduce the cost.
