Abstract

A solar powered distillation system is disclosed comprising a solar collector (210) and a multiple-effect distiller further comprising a plurality of condensation-evaporation stages. The plurality of condensation-evaporation stages further comprises a first and a last condensation-evaporation stage, and further one or more intermediate condensation-evaporation stages that are placed between the first and last condensation-evaporation stages. The distillation system further comprises a first heat exchanger (220) for heating the first condensation-evaporation stage of the multiple-effect distiller, a first conduit (222) enabling a first heat-transport fluid to flow from the solar collector (210) to the first heat exchanger (220) and back to the solar collector (210), and a second conduit (232) for supplying the multiple-effect distiller with a feed liquid. The solar collector (210), the first conduit (222), the first heat exchanger (220), and the multiple-effect distiller constitute a thermodynamically driven heat transportation system.
