Abstract

The invention relates to methods for generating a preswirl in front of a compressor of a turbocharger having the following steps: provision of a valve arrangement, wherein air can be provided via the valve arrangement, for generating a preswirl in front of the compressor; determining whether, during operation in the compressor, a stall and therefore surging of the compressor occur, wherein, if it is determined that surging of the compressor occurs, the valve arrangement is actuated in such a way that sufficient air can be fed to the compressor via the valve arrangement, with the result that a preswirl is generated in front of the compressor, which is sufficient to prevent surging of the compressor substantially completely.
