Abstract

A waste heat utilization device (2) for an internal combustion engine (6) includes a Rankine cycle (18) having a first condenser (10) for condensing, by using external air, refrigerant having flowed through an expander (26); a refrigeration cycle (20) having a second condenser (8) for condensing, by using external air, refrigerant having flowed through a compressor (32); and refrigerant route selection means (48) for operating either or both of the cycles (18, 20). When either of both the cycles (18, 20) is operated, the selection means (48) serially connects the condenser of one cycle to the condenser of the other cycle and causes the refrigerant to flow stepwise.
