Abstract

There is provided a GMR sensor having a detection accuracy with high resolution appropriately obtained by preventing the effect of noise from the outside and a problem caused by a poor electrical signal. The GMR sensor comprises a bridge circuit (20) having first to fourth GMR elements, a differential amplifier (30) for detecting a differential amount between the output signals of first and second output terminals, which occurs along with the movement of a magnet disposed opposing to the bridge circuit (20), and an absolute value converter (40) for converting the detected differential amount to an absolute value. Element portions into which the first GMR element is divided and element portions into which the third GMR element is divided are alternately disposed in a line to make a first GMR unit. Element portions into which the second GMR element is divided and element portions into which the fourth GMR element is divided are alternately disposed in a line to make a second GMR unit. The first and second GMR units are disposed in a direction orthogonal to the movement direction of the magnet.
