Abstract

A colorant for ocular lenses, characterized by comprising an azo dye which has a polymerizable functional group and is represented by any of the general formulae (1), (2), and (3). The colorant for ocular lenses is highly less apt to dissolve away, is less apt to suffer alteration such as hydrolysis, and is stable. The raw-material dye remains unchanged in color tone even after introduction of a given polymerizable group thereinto. The colorant has a novel structure of a color in the range of from red to violet to blue. Also provided are a material for ocular lenses, a process for producing an ocular lens, and an ocular lens.
