Abstract

[PROBLEMS] To provide a vertical magnetic recording medium which can reduce a noise by further reducing the size of magnetic particles and isolating each of the particles in a magnetic recording layer and improve the SNR so as to increase the recording density. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] A vertical magnetic recording medium (100) includes a magnetic recording layer (122) having a granular structure in which a non-magnetic particle boundary portion is formed between magnetic particles which have grown continuously in a columnar shape. The particle boundary portion contains a plurality of types of oxides.
