Abstract

Provided is a method for manufacturing a glass substrate. In the method, a mirror glass plate (3) having a mirror surface as a main surface is processed to obtain required planarity and surface roughness by using a diamond sheet (10), i.e., fixed abrasive grains. As preprocessing, the surface of the mirror glass plate (3) is roughened by mechanical method or a chemical method to a degree where polishing by the diamond sheet (10) is effective. Then, by using the diamond sheet (10), the surface of the mirror glass plate (3) is processed to obtain desired board thickness and planarity.
