Abstract

A process for contact member production in which not only an electrical contact material produced by powder metallurgy and containing a heat-resistant substance can be prevented from deforming or destroying when bonded to a base made of copper by spot brazing, but the base can be prevented from decreasing in mechanical strength through the bonding of the electrical contact material. Also provided are: a contact member obtained by the process; and a switch employing the contact member. An electrical contact material (2) comprising 0.1-60 mass% at least one material selected from the group consisting of tungsten, molybdenum, tungsten carbide, molybdenum carbide, and graphite and 40-99.9 mass% at least one material selected from the group consisting of silver and copper is bonded to a base (3) comprising at least 99 mass% copper by spot brazing with an electrode having a thermal conductivity of 210 W/mK or higher so that the base (3) after the bonding has a Rockwell hardness of 50 HRF or higher.
