Abstract

[PROBLEMS] To provide a method of detecting a viral antigen, whereby the viral antigen can be detected at a high accuracy while causing little false positive reaction even in the case of using a captured antibody and a detected antibody with nonhuman origins; and a kit for detecting a viral antigen. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] A method of detecting a viral antigen contained in a human specimen, which contains an antibody against foreign immunoglobulin, comprising immobilizing a captured antibody with a nonhuman origin on a support and labeling a detected antibody with a nonhuman origin with a labeling agent. Next, the following steps are conducted either simultaneously or in this order, i.e., the step of adding an inhibitory antibody having the same epitope as an epitope, which is an epitope being common to the captured antibody and the detected antibody and recognized by the antibody against foreign immunoglobulin, to the human specimen and allowing it to bind to the antibody against foreign immunoglobulin; and the step of reacting the human specimen with the captured antibody and the detected antibody to thereby allow the captured antibody and the detected antibody to bind to the viral antigen. Subsequently, the labeling agent in the detected antibody bound to the viral antigen is detected. Since no bridge is formed between the captured antibody and the detected antibody, little false positive reaction arises.
