Abstract

The present invention is directed at reducing the spread of infectious pathogens between animals during automated milking operations. A claw bowl assembly (200, 250), comprising a milking claw (204, 254) and claw bowl (202, 252), contains provisions (240, 241, 270) to reduce the possibility of residual collected milk from draining back into the teat cup line conduits (205, 255) leading from the milking claw (204, 254). The creation of fluid capture volumes (e.g. 240) to capture residual fluid when the claw bowl assembly is inverted, preferentially captures residual fluid rather than it readily flowing into the various teat cup line conduits (205, 255) of the milking claw (204, 254).
