Abstract

Disclosed is a surface light-emitting device having high in-plane luminance or uniformity of in-plane chromaticity. This surface light-emitting device comprises a first light-emitting drive section (10), which has at least a light-emitting functional layer (12) arranged between a pair of light-transmitting electrode layers (11A, 11B) and emits light from a light emission surface (10a) which is formed on a side of one of the light-transmitting electrode layers (11A, 11B), and a second light-emitting drive section (20), which has a light-emitting region (20a) corresponding to the first light-emitting drive section (10) so as to emit light fromthe light emission surface (10a) through the first light-emitting drive section (10). The first light-emitting drive section (10) or the second light-emitting drive section (20) has a selective light emission surface (10b) or (20b) which is selectively driven for emission corresponding to a planar part of the light emission surface (10a).
