Description

JOINING PROCESS OF A FLEXIBLE SHEET TO A RIBBONLIKE ELEMENT
The present invention relates to a joining or constraining process of a flexible sheet to a ribbonlike element and the relative product obtained.
In particular, the present invention relates to a process for constraining a flexible sheet to a ribbonlike element in order to produce, for example, a cloth suitable for covering portions of a vehicle in which the rib- bonlike portion is an adhesive portion, or more generally a portion having constraining means to the bodywork of the vehicle.
Car manufacturers, car-dealers and spare-part dealers currently have various types of covers for vehicles, suitable for being used for protective purposes against atmospheric events, acts of vandalism and accidental impacts; these accessories protect the outside finishing and bodywork of cars when they are parked.
The same covers are normally also used for preserv- ing cars when they have to be moved from the production factory to the car-dealer.
These cloths or portions of cloth are constrained to the bodywork of the vehicle by their edges which are in fact provided with ribbonlike elements normally glued or sewn to the cloth. The joining of the flexible sheet to the ribbonlike element on the edge can have drawbacks when the two materials are not compatible with each other. There can be problems, for example, when a cloth consisting of a fab- ric or non-woven fabric (NWF) which is to be constrained on one side of a ribbonlike element, made of polyethylene having the opposite side to that to be associated with the adhesive fabric, suitable for being constrained to the bodywork of the vehicle. Similar problems relating to adhesion can be present for example when two sheets of polyethylene or polypropylene must be joined, or one sheet made of cotton must be joined to a strip of polyethylene or non-woven fabric (NWF) .
The Applicant has found a process for joining a flexible sheet of the type mentioned above to a ribbonlike element made of materials having molecular characteristics which are not compatible with each other, for example polypropylene with cotton, polypropylene with polypropylene itself, polyethylene with polypropylene, polyester with cotton and cotton with cotton. In particular, the process according to the present invention envisages interposing a strip between the two parts to be joined which dissolves under heat thus creating a constraint . An aspect of the present invention relates to a process according to claim 1 enclosed.
A further aspect of the present invention relates to a cloth cover for a vehicle according to claim 3 enclosed. Additional objectives and advantages of the present invention will appear evident from the following description and enclosed drawings, provided for purely illustrative and non- limiting purposes, in which figure 1 schematically represents an exploded view of the joining of a flexible sheet, a strip and a ribbonlike element.
With reference to this figure, a cloth cover for a vehicle produced according to the process of the present invention comprises a flexible sheet 2 and a ribbonlike element 3 which can be associated with all or only a part of the edge of said sheet.
The constraint between the two parts is obtained by means of a strip 4 which dissolves under heat (by means of ultrasounds, high-frequency radiations, hot air or a wedge) and creates the constraint between the two parts. The flexible sheet can be a portion of fabric, for example, or non-woven fabric (NWF) , a laminated or extruded product made of cotton, polyethylene, polypropylene or polyester.
The ribbonlike element can be an adhesive tape, for example, or a strip of fabric, a flexible sheet made of the above-mentioned materials.
The strip which is interposed is made of a material capable of dissolving under heat and acting as a glue between the two parts. Suitable materials, for example, can be polyolefin, polyurethane, polyester and polyamide strips.
The joining process according to the present invention envisages the following phases:
• positioning a portion 21, preferably the edge, on a flexible sheet 2, on which a corresponding portion 31 of a ribbonlike element 3 is to be constrained,
• interposing a strip 4 between the sheet and ribbonlike element in correspondence with said portions 21 and 31,
• heating said portions, causing the strip to dissolve and therefore gluing the ribbonlike element to the sheet.
The strip is preferably heated by means of an ultrasound head or by high-frequency or by a stream of hot air or by a heating wedge .

1. A joining process of a flexible sheet with a rib- bonlike element characterized in that it comprises the following phases: • positioning a portion (21) on said flexible sheet (2) , on which a corresponding portion (31) of said rib- bonlike element (3) is to be constrained,
• interposing a strip (4) between the sheet and rib- bonlike element in correspondence with said portions (21, 31),
• heating said portions, causing said strip to dissolve and consequently gluing the ribbonlike element to the flexible sheet.
2. The process according to claim 1, wherein said heat- ing phase of the strip is effected by sending ultrasounds or by high-frequency technology or by a flow of hot air.
3. A cloth cover for a vehicle comprising a flexible sheet (2) and a ribbonlike element (3) associated with at least a portion (21) of said sheet, characterized in that it comprises a strip (4) which is interposed between the sheet and ribbonlike element and which dissolves under heat causing the gluing between the two parts.
4. The cloth according to claim 3, wherein said portion (21) of flexible sheet is a portion of an edge.
5. The cloth according to claim 3, wherein said rib- bonlike element is an adhesive tape or a strip of fabric or a flexible sheet.
6. The cloth according to claim 3, wherein said flexible sheet is a portion of fabric or non-woven fabric (NWF) or a laminated or extruded product.
7. The cloth according to claim 3, wherein said sheet is made of cotton or polyethylene or polypropylene or polyester.
8. The cloth according to claim 3, wherein said strip (4) is made of a polyolefin or polyurethane or polyester or polyamide material.
