Abstract

A process for producing ß-zeolite having rhodium highly supported thereon in a highly dispersed state. An aqueous mixture comprising water, a silicon source, an aluminum source, a rhodium source, a mineralizer, and a molding agent is subjected to a hydrothermal treatment. This process is preferably as follows. An aqueous solution comprising water, sodium aluminate as an aluminum source, a mineralizer selected among alkali metal hydroxides and alkaline earth hydroxides, and tetraethylammonium hydroxide as a molding agent is mixed with amorphous silica to obtain a mixture. The mixture is mixed with a rhodium source such as an aqueous rhodium salt to obtain an aqueous mixture. This aqueous mixture is subjected to a hydrothermal treatment at 120-170°C over 40-100 hours.
