Abstract
A drop in brightness due to a shift in position between a dark region with low transmissivity of visible light and a discharging (light-emitting) region is prevented to improve bright room contrast of PDP. A plasma display panel has a discharging space formed between a substrate on a front side and a substrate on a rear side, a plurality of main electrode pairs for surface-discharging on an internal surface of the substrate on the front side, a dielectric layer covering the main electrode, and a protective film covering the dielectric layer. The display panel is equipped, on the surface of the protective film with a region where a layer (5) with low transmissivity of visible light is formed corresponding to a region other than the surface-discharging region of the main electrode pair and a region where the layer (5) with the low transmissivity of visible light is removed corresponding to the surface-discharging region of the main electrode pair.
