Abstract

Provided is a metallic pipe bending apparatus comprising heating means for heating a working object or a metallic pipe partially into an annular shape, propelling means for propelling the metallic pipe toward the heating means, guide means including a clamp arm capable of gripping the metallic pipe and rotating on an axis of rotation, for gripping the front portion of that portion of the metallic pipe, which is heated by the heating means, by the clamp arm and for turning the gripped point on the axis of rotation as the metallic pipe is propelled by the propelling means, thereby to apply a bending moment to the metallic pipe, and compression means for applying a returning force or a force directed oppositely of the propelling direction of the metallic pipe by the propelling means, to the metallic pipe on the axis of rotation through the clamp arm, thereby to apply a compression force to the metallic pipe. The compression means is arranged so that the distance between the applied point of the returning force and the axis of rotation may be larger than the distance between the gripped point of the metallic pipe by the clamp arm and the axis of rotation. The thickness reduction can be further reduced without inviting the increase in the compression driving force in the compression bending treatment of the metallic pipe.
