Abstract

 点灯動作を低輝度で行う際に、点灯動作を安定させることが可能なバックライトユニットを提供する。このバックライトユニット(10)は、直列に接続された所定数の発光ダイオード(4、31)をそれぞれ含む複数の発光ダイオード群(4a、4b、31a、31b、31c、31d)からなる光源と、調光信号に基づいて光源を点灯させる点灯回路(20、40)とを備えている。そして、点灯回路は、複数の発光ダイオード群の各々に別個に接続された複数の駆動回路部(21a、21b、41a、41b、41c、41d)を少なくとも有しているとともに、調光信号に基づいて、複数の発光ダイオード群の各々に含まれる全ての発光ダイオードを発光させたり、複数の発光ダイオード群のうちの所定の発光ダイオード群に含まれる発光ダイオードのみを発光させたりする。
