Description

DISPENSING GUN FOR VISCOUS OR PASTY FOOD PRODUCTS
TECHNICAL FIELD The present invention relates to a dispensing gun. More specifically, it relates to a dispensing gun which can be used in the foods industry for dispensing viscous or pasty food product, such as sauce or mayonnaise.
BACKGROUND ART
In the food industry, especially in the institutional food industry, such as in restaurants, in-flight catering, etc., dispensing guns are sometimes used to dispense viscous or pasty products, such as sauces or mayonnaise onto meals or dishes. For example, US-A-5 375 740 discloses a food dispensing gun comprising a main body, a storing portion attached to the main body, a trigger cylindrical inner case disposed in the storing portion and a cartridge for holding the viscous of party product. The operator presses the trigger and the product is expelled through a nozzle in a controllable way.
A disadvantage of the commonly used food dispensing guns is that after dispensing of the product, leaking may sometimes occur, because the product continues to flow from the dispensing gun, even if the trigger is not pushed. This makes it difficult to accurately dose a predetermined amount of product and moreover, accidentally spilled mayonnaise or sauce may negatively affect the appearance of the meals or dishes.
Some prior art relating to dispensing guns in general addresses the disadvantage of leaking, but using different methods, for instance by relieving the pressure (WO-A- 2001/054827) or using manually placing caps on the nozzle. It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a dispensing gun for a viscous or pasty food product that overcomes one or more of the above mentioned draw-backs .
Surprisingly, it was found that this object can be achieved by the dispensing gun according to the present invention for dispensing a viscous or pasty food product, comprising a cylinder (1), a piston (2), a nozzle (3) and a trigger (4), whereby a releasably closable stopper (5) is provided which is attached to the end of the nozzle (3) and is activated by the trigger mechanism, such that upon releasing the trigger (4), the nozzle (3) is closed and leakage of the viscous or pasty food product from the nozzle (3) is prevented.
SUMNLARY OF THE INVENTION
According to a first aspect of the present invention, there is provided a dispensing gun for dispensing a viscous or pasty food product, comprising a cylinder, a piston, a nozzle and a trigger, whereby a releasably closable stopper is provided which is attached to the end of the nozzle and is activated by the trigger mechanism, such that leakage of the viscous or pasty food product from the nozzle is prevented upon releasing the trigger.
According to a second aspect of the invention, there is provided a pouch containing a viscous or pasty food product, which pouch is suitable for use in the dispenser gun according to the invention and which comprises a tip which can be pulled through the nozzle and cut off just before use.
In a third aspect, there is provided a process for dispensing a viscous or pasty food product using said dispensing gun, whereby the product is provided in a closed cartridge or pouch containing the food product, which is opened prior to the moment of use.
DISCLOSURE OF THE INVENTION
The dispensing gun of the present invention comprises a cylinder for holding the viscous or pasty food product and a movable piston. The cylinder has an opening to which a nozzle is connected. The dispensing gun further comprises a trigger, which is connected to the piston inside the cylinder. Attached to the nozzle, there is a releasably closable stopper which is activated by the trigger mechanism, such that upon releasing the trigger, the nozzle is effectively closed and leakage of the viscous or pasty food product from the nozzle is prevented.
Preferably, the cylinder contains a separate disposable cartridge or pouch for holding the viscous or pasty food product. The viscous product can be within a cartridge inside the cylinder, but is can also be present inside a flexible pouch. The advantage of using a pouch containing the viscous product is that such a pouch can be inserted directly into the dispensing gun, so that there is no need to first pouring the sauce into a reusable cartridge or canister. The flexible pouch can be made of any suitable plastic material such as polyethylene and it preferably features a tip which can be pulled through the nozzle and cut off just before use.
In a preferred embodiment, the releasably closable stopper (5) can be pivoted around an axis (6) and is connected to the trigger (4) by means of a rod (7) . More preferably, the releasably closable stopper (5) is screwed to the front end of the cylinder (1) . A second aspect of the present invention is the pouch containing a viscous or pasty food product, which pouch is suitable for use in the dispenser gun according to the invention and which comprises a tip which can be pulled through the nozzle and cut off just before use.
A third aspect of this invention is a process for dispensing for dispensing a viscous of pasty food product using the dispensing gun of the invention. In this process, the food product is provided in a closed cartridge or pouch containing the food product, which is opened prior to the moment of use. Preferably, the pouch containing the food product comprises a tip which is pulled through the nozzle and cut off just before use.
This invention will now be described in more detail with reference to the drawings showing embodiments according to the various aspects of this so invention.
In the drawings: Fig. 1 shows the dispensing gun for dispensing a viscous or pasty food product in the state where the trigger is not pressed and the nozzle is closed; Fig. 2 shows the dispensing gun in the state where the trigger is pressed, the nozzle is open and the food product is dispensed through the nozzle;
Fig. 3 shows the dispensing gun in the state where the trigger is released and the nozzle is closed; Fig. 4 shows a pouch containing a viscous or pasty food product, suitable for use in the dispenser gun according to the invention and comprising a tip which can be pulled through the nozzle and cut off.
In all the drawings like reference numerals designate like functional parts. Referring to Figures 1 to 3, the dispensing gun comprises a cylinder (1), a piston (2), a nozzle (3) and a trigger (4), whereby a releasably closable stopper (5) is provided which is attached to the end of the nozzle (3) and is activated by the trigger mechanism, such that upon releasing the trigger (4), the nozzle (3) is closed and leakage of the viscous or pasty food product from the nozzle (3) is prevented.
Referring to Figure 4, this Figure shows a pouch containing a viscous or pasty food product, suitable for use in the dispenser gun according to the invention and comprising a tip which can be pulled through the nozzle and cut off before use.
