Abstract

Provided is a position detecting device for an actuator, which is enabled to raise a servo frequency band by minimizing the distance between a scale and a drive unit thereby to raise a resonance frequency, so that it can improve a disturbance suppressing performance. The actuator has an arm and a voice coil motor across a pivot. The voice coil motor has its coil equipped with the scale confronting a magnet near the coil. The magnet confronting the scale and a yoke mounting the magnet are opened to have an optical path hole leading from the outside of the yoke to the scale. The actuator includes an optical detector for reading the scale by emitting a sensor light to the scale from the outside of the yoke through the optical path hole and by receiving the sensor light reflected on the scale or having passed through the scale.
