Abstract

According to an instruction given to arbitrary two points on a frame image, a primary rectangular shape is generated having the two points as opposing corners. The primary rectangular shape is adjusted longitudinally or laterally so as to generate a similar rectangular shape having the same aspect ratio as the frame image. The similar rectangular shape is supplied to zoom means. Control is made to cut off from the frame image, the image region located in the similar rectangular shape so as to be subjected to an enlargement process. When an instruction is given to one of the sides of the image reduction instruction unit, the current similar rectangular shape is enlarged in the direction of the instructed side so as to generate the next similar rectangular shape. The next similar rectangular shape is supplied to the zoom means. Control is made to cut off from the frame image being captured, the image region located in the next similar rectangular shape so as to be subjected to an enlargement process.
