Description

STOP FOR PROGRESSIVE ME
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to press die component, more specifically, relates to progressive die component.
The stop for progressive die controls the strap or coil progression, and registers the strap or coil at precise position for the next operation before additional Work has been done on it. French stop is widely used today in Stamping industry. French stop works as a gate, the strap or coil; which is wider than the French stop's allowance, can not pass through it. Before the strap or coil enter the French stop, at the precise distance called: progression,, the whole side(s) of the strap or coil is (are) cut to reduce the width to the French stop allowance, so the strap or coil can only tnove forward one progression. Since French stop requests material removal on the whole side(s) of the strap or coil, extra material is always needed for progressive die which is utilizing French stop, extra material cost is realized in this situation. But, the present invention does not request to remove the whole side(s) of the strap or coil, saving material: is achieved.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
This invention provides means for controlling the strap or coil progression and registering the strap or coil at precise position without the whole side(s) of the strap or coil removal.
This invention includes: a Finger 1 which catches and releases the strap or coil; a Fixed Object 2 which stops Finger 1 at precise positron; a Fixed Object 3 which controls the back and forth moving range of Finger 1; a Fixed Shaft 4 which only allows Finger Fs lateral movement and rotation; a Spring 5 which pushes Finger 1 laterally against strap or coil; a Spring 6 which pπshes Finger 1 upstream direction of strap or coil movement; and a Ram 7 which is driven by upper half of the progressive die directly or indirectly. When the progressive dier doses, Ram 7 causes Finger 1 to release the strap or coil. When the progressive die opens, the strap or coil can move forward freely. At the position where the strap or coil should stop,, material is pre-removed for Finger 1 tσ catch, as this position approaches Finger 1, Finger 1 will catch the strap or coil again, and stop the strap or coil at Fixed Object 2, so the strap or coir is only allowed to move forward one progression. Since the material removal is only request at the position where the strap or coil should be stopped, less material cost is realized. If the progression is carefully arranged in scrap area, minimum material request is achieved.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERED EMBODIMENT
Description for the Stop For Progressive Die providing means to control the strap or coil progression and register the strap or coil at precise position without the whole side(s) of the strap or coil removal are:
FIG 1 shows the ISO view of the invention; This invention includes: a Finger 1 which catches and releases the strap or coir; a Fixed Object 2 which stops Finger 1 at precise position where the straight face is perpendicular to the direction of the strap or coil movement; a Fixed Object 3 which controls the back and forth moving range of Finger 1, stops Finger 1 moving excessively in upstream direction of the strap or coil movement; a Fixed Shaft 4 which only allows Finger I's lateral movement and rotation; a Spring 5 which pushes Finger 1 laterally against strap or coil; a Spring 6 which pushes Finger 1 upstream direction of the strap or coil movement against Fixed Object 3 ; and a Ram 7 which is driven by upper half of the progressive die directly or indirectly- and drives the cam face on Finger 1. For easy description, the following description uses the position where
Finger 1 is tightly against Fixed Object 2 as reference. Finger 1 has a tip formed by a bevel face at the downstream direction of the strap or coil movement and a straight face at the upstream direction of the strap or coil movement at the end of Finger 1 which is closer to the strap or coil, shown in FIG 1 through FICr 6, this tip is preferred with a small filet (round) on, so it would not cut the strap or coil but glide along the edge of the strap or coil. At this position, the straight face should be perpendicular to the direction of the strap or coil movement, and the minimum length of the straight face should be longer than the engaging length between Finger 1 and the strap or coil. A slot is located close to the far end of Finger 1 away from the strap or coil, the direction of the slot is perpendicular to the direction of the strap or coil movement. A Fixed Shaft 4 is located in the slot to hold Finger 1 in. position, and allows Finger 1 to rotate and move along the slot. Since Finger 1 also stays between Fixed Object 2 and Fixed Object 3, the maximum rotation of Finger 1 is^ as Fixed Object 2 and Fixed Object 3 allow to, and maximum lateral movement is as slot allows to. A cam face is located close to the far end of Finger 1 away from the strap or coir too. This cam face can be on top of Finger 1, but it is mure preferred on the side of Finger 1 which is on the upstrearn direction of the strap or coil movement, and has a direction perpendicular to the slot. The cam face on Finger r which is driven by Ram 7, and when Ram 7 and: Finger 1 fully engage, will cause Finger 1 move away from strap or coil, therefore, disengages Finger 1 from the strap or coil, and set the strap or coil free. Spring 5 which sits in fixed surface as shown in FIG 1 through FIG 6, pushes Finger 1 toward the strap or coil, when Ram 7 is not engaged with Finger 1, Spring 5 will cause the tip- of Finger 1 contact the side of the strap or coil. Spring 6 which sit in fixed surface as shown in FIG 1 through FIG 6, pushes Finger 1 upstream direction of the strap or coil movement, when Finger 1 is not engaged with strap or coil, Spring 6 will cause Finger 1 move upstream direction: of the strap or coil movement and move away from the engaging area on the strap or coil, and to contact Fixed Object 3.
FIG 2 shows the situation of this invention when the progressive die closes. When the progressive die closes, Ram 7 which is driven by upper half of the progressive die directly or indirectly and is much stronger than Spring 5, causes Finger 1 to move away from the strap or coil, and release the strap or coil. The torque which is formed by the force from Spring 6, Spring 5 and; Ram 7, causes Finger 1 to rotate, and the tip of Finger 1 moves upstream direction of the strap or coil movement and away from the engaging area of the Strap or coil, and Finger 1 is in position against Fixed
115 Object 3. The strap or coil is disengaged from Finger 1. At this moment^ only the progressive die holds the strap or coil.
FIG 3 shows the situation of this invention when the progressive die opens. When the progressive die opens, Ram 7 moves away from Finger I7 Spring 5 pushes Finger t towards the strap or coil, and the tip of Finger 1
12α contacts the strap or coil, since Spring 6 pushes Finger 1 against Fixed Object 3, Finger 1 could not fall back into the engaging area on the strap or coil. Th€rstrap or coil is now ready to move freely.
FIG 4 shows the situation of this invention when the strap or coil is being fed after the progressive die opens. When the strap or coil moves, the
125 tip of Finger 1 glides along the edge of the strap or coil.
FIG 5 shows the situation of this invention when Finger 1 engages with the strap or coil: in feeding. At the position where the strap or coil should stop, material is pre-removed for Finger 1 to catch, as this position approaches Finger 1, Finger 1, which is pushed by Spring 5, will fall into
130 the area Where material is pre-removed, and catch the strap or coil again.
FIG 6 shows the situation of this invention when: Finger 1 stops and registers the strap or coil. After Finger 1 catches the strap or coil, the strap or coil will pushes Finger 1 against Fixed Object 2, at this moment the strap or CQiI is stopped at precise position and registered. Following this, the
135 progressive die closes, and does what it needs tσ do; then, a new cycle starts all over again.
