Definitions
- the present invention relates to the manufacture of drawn glass bottles. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
- the external relief is made by means of external forming tools, a support mandrel being housed in the blank at the level of its thickening.
- the final cooling is done while the bottle continues to turn, in the air, on itself around its longitudinal axis.
- the softening of the glass must involve a large mass of the latter in which the temperature is not established homogeneously, which adversely affects the subsequent operations of forming.
- the tooling of conformation of the external reliefs is not then any more able to ensure ideally its function and it is not rare to note 30% to 40% of non-conforming vials which thus form a waste burdening the cost price of the bottle.
- the vial closure means dictate the at least external conformation of the neck of this vial.
- the problem to be solved is therefore to manufacture from drawn glass blanks a neck adapted to receive a known closure means. It is indeed inconceivable to attempt a savings on the cost price of the bottle by imposing the development of new specific means of closure that would imply costs much higher than the economy achieved by the technique of stretching.
- the closure means concerned are those which comprise a screwed capsule, extended by a sleeve of which the capsule is separable along a line of weakness.
- the present invention intends to propose a solution for manufacturing a bottle from a drawn glass blank whose neck is shaped to admit a cap screwed onto a thread and comprises a sleeve crimped under a ring surmounted by the net.
- the invention relates to a bottle comprising a body obtained by substantially cylindrical stretching and a neck provided, from the rim, with an external thread and a ring whose outer diameter is substantially equal to the diameter at the top of the thread, wherein the ring has a central groove.
- This constructive arrangement of the bottle allows the entire manufacture of the bottle from a drawn glass blank.
- the geometry according to the invention of the neck of the bottle does not affect its external dimensions nor its longitudinal dimension and therefore the location and the axial dimension of the ring which are critical values for receiving the closure of the bottle. Indeed, this clogging is very often done by a metal cap which is reported cylindrical on the neck and which is deformed from the outside to fit the thread by its upper part close to the rim on which it rests in a sealed manner thanks to an element sealing for this purpose in the bottom of the capsule. Beyond the thread and a peripheral fragility line, the capsule is extended by a cylindrical sleeve which is narrowed under the ring in order to create a shoulder that holds the capsule in leaktight contact with the mouthpiece.
- the presence of the outer groove on the surface of the ring does not affect the quality of the closure.
- the presence of this groove reduces the amount of glass mass to soften to thicken the wall and reduce the risk of temperature heterogeneity that affects the operations of the shaping tools of the neck.
- the scrap rate decreases and the manufacturing cost is lowered.
- the dimensions useful for making this plugging on conventional machines with common capsules are retained. It may even be added that the line of fragility of the capsule may be situated at the level of the throat so that it becomes possible to break the capsule at its level without having to unscrew the upper part of the capsule, by depressing the the area that carries it in the groove of the groove. It is then possible to remedy a disadvantage which is not uncommon to meet with this type of plug which results from the fact that the line of weakness is too strong. In this case, the screwing leads to the destruction of the screw thread of the capsule by rotation on the thread of the neck without the possibility of axial movement, and the impossibility otherwise to unclog the bottle, at least to reuse the capsule to ensure temporary filling of the bottle during its use.
- the width of the groove is equal to at least half of its height and its depth is of the order of the thickness of the wall of the bottle.
- FIG 1 is an external view of a bottle neck according to the invention
- FIG 2 illustrates by a section this collar equipped with its closure means.
- FIG. 1 there is shown the neck or neck of a bottle of substantially cylindrical body 1, according to the invention.
- This body 1 is made of drawn glass and the neck 2 has two superimposed sections.
- the upper section 2a adjacent to the rim 3 carries an external thread 4 (with one or two threads) while the lower section 2b is formed by an outer ring 5 defining at least one lower shoulder 6 and having a central groove 7.
- the depth of the groove is, in the case of the figure, substantially equal to the average thickness of the wall of the bottle while the thickness of this wall at the bottom of this groove is substantially equal to this value.
- the ring 5 is thus divided into two superposed rings 5a and 5b, separated by the groove 7.
- the volume of material which is located at the level of this ring is much smaller than that of a conventional ring of the same dimensions. he This results in a mass of glass much lower at this level, which in the manufacturing process makes it possible to carry out the external conformation of the neck of the bottle in the continuity of the drawing without the decentration of the neck occurring. compared to the body, found with a "full" ring as mentioned above.
- the bottle can be equipped with a known metal capsule and, in a known manner.
- This capsule is formed by a kind of socket comprising a metal foil cylinder 10 with a bottom lined with a sealing coating 11, which is shaped around the neck so as to marry by plastic deformation the thread 3 and the shoulder 6 with a sealing contact ensured on the rim of the neck.
- the cylindrical portion of the capsule has a line of weakness 12, consisting for example of a series of perforations which are such that the unscrewing of the capsule causes both a shear torque of the sleeve and an axial traction whose combined effects cause the separation of the capsule from the lower part of the cylindrical sleeve which remains on the neck, retained by the shoulder 6.
- the line of weakness 12 is located right of the groove 7. This provision is advantageous because it is not not infrequently that the resistance of the line of fragility is too important to be broken. Under these conditions, the capsule turns on itself and the print of the net is destroyed so that the unscrewing and the axial traction that results are no longer produced. Unclogging the bottle then requires the capsule to be destroyed by means of a knife, for example. In this case, with the ring of the invention, simply push the sleeve at the line of weakness to simply break and thus make possible the separation of the capsule.
