Abstract

A bearing device and a device for sensing a bearing preload that are capable of sensing a preload of a bearing in operation, that are produced at reduced costs, that are more simply assembled, that have enhanced sensing sensitivity, and that are resistant to disturbance noise. A strain generation section (7) for generating strain by axial force acting between opposite ends of an outer ring spacer (5) is provided at a portion in the axial direction of the spacer (5). A strain sensor (10) for sensing the strain is provided in the strain generation section (7). The spacer (5) is constructed from a spacer body (6) having ring-shaped split spacer bodies (6a, 6b) and from the strain generation section (7) that is a ring member. The strain generation section (7) is placed between the split spacer bodies (6a, 6b).
