Abstract

A multi functional rim lock for a door (2) comprising a main frame (25) and an upper cover to act as a housing for the rim lock, an inner knob fixed to a master cam which is coupled to a bolt (19a) and a latch and is provided inside said housing, said inner knob is rotated to operate the bolt and /or the latch for operating the rim lock, an outer knob (31) is coupled to an outer cylinder assembly fixed on the outer cover through a master plate, said outer cylinder assembly has a push pin which gets engaged with the master cam when the key is inserted in the outer cylinder, upon rotation of the key the push pin rotates the master cam to operate the bolt and / or the latch.

AMENDED CLAIMS received by the International Bureau on 30 December 2008 (30.12.2008)
1. A multi functional rim lock for a door (2) comprising: - a main frame (25) and an upper cover (3) to act as a housing for the rim lock, - an inner knob (27) fixed to a master cam (20), the master cam (20) being coupled to a bolt (19) and a latch (16) and is provided inside the housing, - the inner knob (27) being rotated to operate the master cam (20), and hence the bolt (19) and /or the latch (16) of the rim lock, - an outer cylinder assembly comprising ■ a cylinder (6) for actuating the master cam, the cylinder being operated by a key (5) and being attached to the upper cover (3) through a master plate (14), - an outer knob (1a) coupled to the rotating housing (4) of the outer cylinder assembly, - the latch (16) being actuated by the inner knob (27) from inside or by key (5) / outer knob (1 a) from outside, - the bolt (19) being actuated by the inner knot) (27) from inside or by the key (5) from outside. characterized in that - the outer cylinder assembly further comprises
■ a rotating housing (4) rotatably mounted on the upper upper cover (3), and being coupled to a latch actuator (13), the latch actuator (13) in turn being coupled to the latch (16) of the rim lock, wherein the rotating housing (4) is rotated to operate the latch actuator (13) and hence the latch (16) of the rim lock, and
■ a push pin (7) slidably disposed in the cylinder (6) and engaging with the master cam (20) when the key (5) is inserted into the cylinder (θ), for providing rotation to the master cam (20) with the rotation of the key (5)

The multi functional rim lock for a door (2) as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the actuated bolt (19) restricts the movement of the latch (16) and the latch (16) remains in actuated state until the bolt (19) is withdrawn inside the rim lock either by the inner knob (27) from inside or by (5) key from outside.
3. The multi functional rim lock for a door (2) as claimed in claim 1 , wherein a threaded knob (29) is provided in the proximity of the inner knob (22) and is coupled to the rotating housing (4) of outer knob(1a) to lock the motion and functioning of the outer knob (1a).
4. The multi functional rim lock for a door (2) as claimed in claim 3, wherein the threaded knob (29) can lock the outer knob (1a) in the actuated position when the latch (16) is retracted by the rotation of outer knob (1a).
5. The multi functional rim lock for a door (2) as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the housing for the rim lock is provided with an inner cylinder assembly (30) which gets engaged with the master cam (20) to deactivate the rim lock in its locked position.
6. The multi functional rim lock for a door (2) as claimed in claim 5, wherein the inner cylinder assembly (30) is operated by a separate key opening near the proximity of the inner knob (22) and it operates by its seperate key (30a)
7. The multi functional rim lock for a door (2) as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the main frame (25) includes a master cam jammer (23), which is operated by inner cylinder to engage with the master cam (20) to lock the movement of master cam (20).
8. The multi functional rim lock for a door (2) as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the outer cylinder assembly, having the rotating housing (4) protruding from back of the main frame (25) and fixed on upper cover (3), is adapted to fit through a hole in the door (2).
9. The multi functional rim lock for a door (2) as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the master cam (20) operates a spring loaded bolt cam (18) to provide the load on the bolt (19).

The multi functional rim lock for a door (2) as claimed in claim 1 , wherein a slot (20H2) is provided in the master cam (20) for the engagement of push pin (7) of outer cylinder assembly, - the master cam (20) having a pin (20P1) for operating the bolt (19), - a protusion (20S1 ) is provided in the master cam (20) for operating the latch
(16), - the master cam (20) having a further pin (20a) for fixing with the inner knob (27).
11 The multi functional rim lock for a door (2) as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the master plate (14) is fixed to upper cover (3) to couple the cylinder (6), the rotating housing
(4), the latch actuator (13) and an outer knob locking cam (15). 12. A multi functional rim lock for a door comprising: a main frame (25) and an upper cover (3) to act as a housing for the rim lock, an inner knob (27) fixed to a master cam (20), the master cam (20) being coupled to a bolt (19) and a latch (16) and is provided inside the housing, - the inner knob (27) being rotated to operate the master cam (20), and hence the bolt (19) and /or the latch (16) of the rim lock, - an outer cylinder assembly comprising
- a cylinder (6) for actuating the master cam, the cylinder being operated by a key (5) and being attached to the upper cover (3) through a master plate (14), - an outer knob (1a) coupled to the rotating housing (4) of the outer cylinder assembly, - the latch (16) being actuated by the inner knob (27) from inside or by key (5) / outer knob (1 a) from outside, - the bolt (19) being actuated by the inner knob (27) from inside or by the key (5) from outside, characterized in that - the outer cylinder assembly further comprises ■ a rotating housing (4) rotatably mounted on the upper upper cover (3), the rotating housing (4) being coupled to a latch actuator (13), the latch actuator (13) in turn being coupled to the latch (16) of the rim lock, wherein the rotating housing (4) is rotated to operate the latch actuator (13) and hence the latch (16) of the rim lock, and ■ a push pin (7) slidably disposed in the cylinder (6) and cooperates with the master cam (20) when the key (5) is inserted into the cylinder (6), hence providing rotation to the master cam (20) with the rotation of the key (5) - a threaded knob (29) provided in proximity to the inner knob (27) and is coupled to the outer knob (1a) to lock the motion and functioning of the outer knob (1a), - a master cam jammer (23) operated from inside by another key to engage with the master cam (20) to lock the movement of master cam (20). 13. A multi functional rim lock for a door, substantially as herein described in the accompanying drawings.
