Description
Nutritional Composition
The present invention relates to improved nutritional compositions and to methods of making the same. In particular the invention relates to nutritional products which help to improve performance of athletes , active people or those driving long distances or operating machinery.
When people exercise they perspire and the resultant loss of water may lead to dehydration, impaired heat dissipation, reduced exercise performance and potential health problems. Prolonged exercise may also deplete the carbohydrate energy stores of the body leading to reduced exercise performance. Ingesting both fluid and carbohydrate during exercise can replace some of the fluid lost and the energy stores used up and may enhance performance .
Nutritional compositions for consumption during exercise are known. People driving long distances or operating machinery also take such compositions to help them stay alert and maintain performance.
Compositions of this kind often include caffeine as a stimulant. Caffeine is known to increase capacity for mental or physical labour. However, there are a number of disadvantages associated with caffeine use, particularly when high doses are taken. These negative effects may include blurred vision and impaired motor control. There are also potential adverse effects on cardiac function as caffeine can increase arterial stiffness and increase systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
It is an aim of the present invention to provide a nutritional composition suitable for ingestion by athletes, active people and/or those driving or operating machinery having improved properties .
