Abstract

A perambulator pannier system with at least one pannier (1) which pannier attaches to the side of a perambulator and to a connecting piece (5) attached to the handles or handlebar of the perambulator at the back. The pannier can be detached from the side of the perambulator and retracts into the connecting piece. In a preferred embodiment the connecting piece is a storage bag (5) and the panniers retract into vertical pockets (17) sewn on opposite sides of the storage bag.

Title of Invention
Perambulator pannier system
Background
This invention relates to storage bags which can be attached to perambulators.
When many shopping bags are hanged or tied to the handles or handlebar of a perambulator, the perambulator may become unstable. Often the perambulator remains upright only while a child is in the perambulator acting as a counterweight.
Prior art solutions attach to the back of perambulators which makes some perambulators unstable, particularly the umbrella folding types. Traditional perambulator storage solutions do not specifically address the issue of balance. They concentrate mainly on convenient storage and methods of attachment to the back of perambulators.
In addition, traditional detachable solutions offer limited storage space. Most often they are baby changing bags and do not offer additional storage space for bulky items and/or shopping
A known example of using the sides of a perambulator is a Push-chair bag assembly with reference EPOl 80314. The assembly comprises two bags connected by an adjustable strap with rings where the handles of the pushchair go through the rings. The pushchair bag assembly is in fully deployed condition even when the bags are not being used. It has no means for storing the bags when they are attached to the buggy but are empty.
Statement of invention The present invention proposes attaching at least one pannier to the side of a perambulator when additional storage space is required which pannier can be detached from the side of the perambulator and retracted into a connecting piece.
Advantages
Attaching panniers to the sides of a perambulator will distribute the additional weight towards the middle and base of the perambulator rather than the back and will, therefore, ensure greater stability of the perambulator
The pannier can easily be detached from the side of the perambulator and retracted into a connecting piece, thus providing additional storage space only when required.
Preferably, the pannier folds into a pocket at the side of the connecting piece.
Preferably, the connecting piece is a storage bag with a number of pockets accommodating baby items and personal belongings.
The availability of additional storage space attached to the perambulator means that users are likely to use fewer plastic shopping bags thus the perambulator pannier system has environmental benefits.
In an embodiment where a storage bag serves as a connecting piece, the storage bag can be used as a shoulder bag independently from a perambulator.

Description
Fig. 1 is a preferred version of the perambulator pannier system comprising of two panniers 1, 3 connected to the opposite sides of a storage bag 5 which panniers are attached to the sides of a perambulator. For ease of explanation the details of only one pannier are described.
The storage bag is generally of a rectangular shape with width approximately equalling the width of an average single perambulator. The storage bag has straps 7, 9 attached at each top corner. The two straps are attached to the perambulator handles or handlebar using known fasteners 11, 13 such as cam buckles, side release buckles or clasps.
The storage bag is provided with at least one handle 15 and a number of external and internal pockets accommodating baby and personal items. The storage bag is made of waterproof material and lined with wipeable material.
The storage bag has vertical pockets 17, 19 along each of its two sides. The pockets accommodate the panniers when the said panniers are not in use. A detailed description of the pockets and pannier folding system is given below in Figures 4 and 5. The panniers are described in Fig. 6.

Fig. 2 shows another embodiment of the perambulator panniers system comprising of two panniers 1, 3 connected to the opposite sides of a rucksack 5. The rucksack is of a traditional construction with the addition of straps 7, 9 attached at each top corner. The two straps are attached to the perambulator handles of handlebar using known fasteners 11, 13 such as cam 100 buckles, side release buckles or clasps.
The rucksack has vertical pockets 17, 19 along each of its two sides. The pockets accommodate the panniers when the said panniers are not in use. A detailed description of the pockets and pannier folding system is given below in Figures 4 and 5. The panniers are described in Fig. 6.

In this embodiment a connecting frame 5 serves as a connecting piece. The connecting frame is generally of a rectangular shape and is preferably made of webbing edge and mesh centre. Claims
1 Perambulator pannier system with at least one pannier attached to a side of a perambulator which pannier retracts into a connecting piece attached to the back of a perambulator.
2 Pannier system according to Claim 1 in which the pannier retracts into a storage bag attached to the back of a perambulator.
3 Pannier system according to Claim 2 where the storage bag is a baby changing bag.
4 Pannier system according to Claim 2 where the storage bag is a rucksack.
5 Pannier system according to Claim 1 in which the pannier retracts into a connecting frame attached to the back of a perambulator.
6 Pannier system as claimed in the preceding claims in which the pannier retracts into at least one pocket.
7 A perambulator comprising a perambulator with pannier system attached to it as defined in any preceding claims.
8 A perambulator pannier system substantially as described with reference to or as shown in the drawings.
