Abstract

A magnetic recording medium which is not limited in base size and the production of which necessitates no expensive apparatuses such as a vacuum chamber; a process for producing the medium; and a magnetic recording reader employing the medium. The magnetic recording medium (1) comprises: a base (14) coated with a coating film made of a first film-forming compound having a first functional group; and one fine-magnetic-particle layer comprising fine reactive magnetic particles (42) arranged and coated with a coating film made of a first coupling agent having a first coupling reaction group which forms a bond by coupling reaction with the firstfunctional group, the layer being bonded and fixed to the surface of the base (14) through bonds formed by the coupling reaction of the first functional group with the first coupling reaction group. The medium (1) may further have fine magnetic particles (24) coated with a coating film of a film-forming compound reacting with the first coupling reaction group and fine reactive magnetic particles (42), the particles (24) and the particles (42) being alternately bonded and fixed over the fine-magnetic-particle layer.
