Abstract
Light emitted from a light source and having such an exit angle range as showing high luminance distribution is made to travel effectively while spreading transversely in a waveguide plate. In a side light system surface light-emitting device having a waveguide plate (1) and a light source (2), the light entering portion end face (1B) has a first prism face (P1) for deflecting the light emitted from the light source (2) and entering into the waveguide plate (1) toward the transverse direction (X axis direction), and a second prism face (P2) for partially deflecting the light deflected by the first prism face (P1) within such a range as directivity of the light is sustained.
