Abstract
An image encoding method includes: a step of dividing a input image signal into a plurality of pixel blocks; a step of selecting a predicted mode of each pixel block from at least one predicted modes; a step of generating a predicted image signal of each pixel block from the reference image signal according to the selected predicted mode; a step of generating a prediction error signal by using the pixel block and the predicted image signal; a step of generating an quantized converted signal by subjecting the prediction error signal to an orthogonal conversion and quantization; a step of referencing a frequency information table containing mode information of each of one or more predicted modes; a step of obtaining the order information indicating the position of the mode information corresponding to the selected predicted mode in the frequency information table; a step of encoding the quantized converted signal and the order information; and a step of arranging the mode information corresponding to the selected predicted mode at the head of the frequency information table so as to rearrange the frequency information table.
