Abstract

A mechanism for controlling and operating a compressor capacity and an air conditioner having the mechanism. The mechanism achieves, without a rise in cost, capacity control of a compressor in the same way as in the case where two two-way valves are used. A circuit (35) for controlling and operating compressor capacity has a pilot valve (90) for a four-way switch valve, having four connection thin pipes (93a-93d), a suction branch pipe (87), an intermediate pipe (88), and a discharge branch pipe (89). The suction branch pipe (87) is connected to the first thin pipe (93a), which is one of the four connection thin pipes and is branched from a suction pipe (28) of the compressor (22), and has a larger diameter than the first thin pipe (93a). The intermediate pipe (88) is connected to the second thin pipe (93b), which is one of the four thin pipes and is connected to a cylinder intermediate section (79) of the compressor (22), and has a larger diameter than the second thin pipe (93b). The discharge branch pipe (89) is connected to the third thin pipe (93c), which is one of the four thin pipes and is branched from a discharge pipe (30) of the compressor (22), and has a larger diameter than the third thin pipe (93c).
