Abstract

An amplifier circuit wherein the memory amount required for holding correction values used in distortion compensation is relatively small and a transmission power control having a wide dynamic range can be performed with high efficiency of power. In this amplifier circuit (100), when a transmission power control value is equal to or greater than a predetermined threshold value, amplifiers (107a,107b) are caused to operate in a saturation range, and the phase difference between two constant envelope signals (S1,S2) or the power supply voltages of the amplifiers (107a,107b) are controlled, thereby performing a transmission power control, while activating a distortion compensating function. When the transmission power control value is less than the threshold value, the amplifiers (107a,107b) are caused to operate in an unsaturation range, and the gains of variable gain parts (106a,106b) are controlled, thereby performing a transmission power control, while halting the distortion compensating function. Therefore, the amplifiers (107a,107b) can be caused to operate with a high efficiency, and a transmission power control having a wide dynamic range can be performed as well as the memory amount required for holding the correction values used in the distortion compensation can be reduced.
