情報記録媒体(100)は、データ情報を担持する凹凸形状のピット(102a)が形成されている第1領域(102)と、ピットに対するギャップ制御を行うための凹凸形状に関する特性情報(101b)が、凹凸形状よりも平坦な形状を有するパターン(101a)によって記録されている第2領域(101)とを備える。その再生時に、先ず第2領域から特性情報を読み取れば、第1領域でデータ情報を読み取る際に、固体浸レンズを利用する光ピックアップであっても、情報記録媒体に衝突することを確実に回避できる。
