Abstract
An imaging apparatus and an operation assisting device which can pick up an image in four directions around a mobile such as a vehicle, especially in such a direction that is difficult or impossible for the driver to view, and can present an easy-to-view image effectively to a user. A camera unit (1) comprises a CCD (12b) fixed rotatably about the fixing axis (G) and picking up simultaneously images in two different directions on the outside of the vehicle, and a rotary mechanism (11a) for transferring the CCD (12b) from a first fixed state to a second fixed state by rotating the CCD (12b) about the fixing axis (G) by 90 degree, for example. Images in two horizontal directions intersecting the traveling direction of the vehicle perpendicularly are picked up simultaneously by the CCD (12b) when the CCD (12b) is in the first fixed state, whereas an image in the vertical donward direction of the vehicle and an image in the reverse direction of the vehicle are picked up simultaneously by the CCD (12b) when the CCD (12b) is in the second fixed state.
