Description
Locking and coupling system for remote controlled windows
The subject of the invention is a locking and coupling system connecting a window sash with the actuating mechanism of a motor operator fixed on the window frame, located on the bottom part of a roof window.
Known are systems connecting the sash with the actuating mechanism of the motor operator fixed to the roof window frame, consisting of a catch set on an element of the sash and of a suitably designed end piece of the actuating mechanism fixed to the window frame. Both elements are interconnected by a cotter pin which is set in coaxial holes in the fork of the catch, or connected by a snap fastener when the arms of the forked catch lock in an elastic way the properly shaped end piece of the actuating mechanism.
When the window is being used, in happens often that the motor operator has to be disconnected from the sash, which requires gaining access to the connecting elements and using additional tools to free the end piece of the operator from the catch. Besides, manual handling of the sash stripped of a grip to hold it, is awkward.
There is a known VELUX roof window fitted with a motor operator for remote control of the sash. The window consists of a window frame and a sash moving about an axis located at half height of the window. In the upper element of the sash there is a recess serving as a venting channel, which is closed from the inside by a flap connected in a turning way with the sash along the bottom edge of the flap. The flap has two opening steps. The first step opens the venting channel and enables external air flow into room, while the second step unlocks the sash from the window frame. A chain type motor operator set in the venting channel space on window frame enables remote opening and closing of the window. When the sash and the flap are closed, the end piece of the actuating mechanism of the motor operator is always outside the seat set located on the flap.
Starting the motor operator causes that the end piece of the operating link slides into the seat and forces the flap to turn. During the first phase of turning the end piece of the actuating mechanism is being locked in the seat, and during the further phase of swinging of the flap the sash is unlocked from the window frame and turns about the axis at half height of the window.
When the sash is being closed, the motor operator pulls the sash towards the window frame and locks it forcing also the flap to turn to its initial position, pulls out the end piece of operating link from the seat, and closes the venting channel.
Such means of connecting the end piece of the operating link with the sash enable also manual operation of the window. When the user pulls the grip of the flap, it turns, opening the venting channel and then the sash is unlocked from the window frame. Further pulling of the flap turns the sash about its horizontal axis at half height of the window.
As the motor operator is arranged at the upper part of the window and operates in conjunction with the elements locking the sash to the window frame, which are also arranged at the upper part of the window, such solution is being applied only for windows used in their turning function.
The aim of the invention is providing a system of locking and connecting a window sash with the actuating mechanism of the motor operator fixed to the window frame at the bottom part of a roof window of the turning, tilting or turning- and-tilting type, which enables connecting and uncoupling the motor operator from the sash without the necessity to use additional tools, and also enables, when necessary, easy and simple manual turning of the sash about its tilting or turning axes.
The locking and coupling system for remote control windows according the invention consists of a handle arranged on the sash and of two elements coupled together by turning the handle, of which elements one is located on the sash and the second is the end piece of the actuating mechanism arranged on the
window frame. The handle consists of a cover plate and a grip turning in the cover plate, while the elements being coupled are the socket and an element mating with the socket, which is being inserted into the socket when the sash adheres to the window frame and is locked in the socket by turning the grip of the handle. The turning range of the handle is limited preferably to a straight angle. The element mating with the socket is locked in it when the handle is set in one end position, which enables turning the sash by the motor operator, and when turned into the other end position, that element is unlocked, making it possible to operate the sash by pressing the handle. When the sash adheres to the window frame, the element mating with the socket remains always in it.
The locking and coupling system for remote controlled windows according the invention is presented as an embodiment in the drawings, of which Fig. 1 shows the roof window with the actuating mechanism connected to the sash by the locking and coupling system and Fig. 2 and 3 show the elements of that locking and coupling system viewed from both sides.
The locking and coupling system consists of the handle with the socket 1 arranged on the bottom element of the sash and of the end piece 2 of the actuating mechanism of the motor operator, set on the window frame.
The handle has a cover plate 3 in form of an oblong plate with three holes 4, 5 and 4 arranged along the longitudinal axis of the plate and the grip 6 with the stem 7 and the cylindrical abutment pivot 8. In the grip 6 of the handle there is the socket 1 consisting of the recess 9 in form of a truncated cone made in the stem 7 tapering towards the pivot 8, and a coaxial cylindrical bore 10 made in the pivot 8. The diameter of the bore 10 is equal to the diameter of the smaller base of the recess 9.
The recess 9 and the bore 10 are separated by the barrier 11 in form of two segments of a circle, the straight edges of which are distant from each other and parallel, being perpendicular to the grip 6. On the side of the bore 10, the barrier 11 has a properly profiled aiming and locking surface. The cover plate 3 is being fixed to the bottom element of the sash frame by two screws passing
through the holes 4, and in the central hole 5 of it turns the pivot 8, which is protected against sliding out of the cover plate 3 by the snap ring 12. In the cover plate 3, along a fragment of the edge of the central hole 5 at the side of the grip 6, there is the recess 13 with abutting surfaces.
On the external cylindrical surface of the pivot 8, at the stem 7, is made the lip 14, which mates with the abutting surfaces of the recess 13, limiting the turning angle of the grip 6 to 90°. In the end positions of the grip 6 it is set parallel or at right angles to longitudinal axis of the cover plate 3.
The end piece 2 of the actuating mechanism of the motor operator consists of the parts 2a and 2b. The part 2a is being connected with the last link of the chain of the actuating mechanism and is provided on one side with a suitable connector and on the opposite side with the ear 15 with a pin hole. The part 2b has the form of a truncated cone the size of which corresponds to the recess 9. On the larger base of the cone 2b it has the form of the fork 16 with pin holes, and on smaller base it is provided with the catch 17 in form of a T with the element 17a, which is longer than the spacing between the straight edges of the barrier 11 and shorter than the diameter of the bore 10 in the pivot 8. The parts 2a and 2b of the end piece 2 are connected together in an articulating manner by the pin 18, which is set in the holes in the ear 15 and fork 16, the axis of the pin 18 being parallel to the axis of the element 17a of the catch 17.
The connection of the actuating mechanism with the sash is being achieved by inserting the catch 17 through the recess 9 into the bore 10 when the grip 6 of the handle is set at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the cover plate 3, and then, turning the grip 6 by 90° to be parallel to the longitudinal axis of the cover plate 3 causes that the element 17a comes into contact with the aiming and locking surface of the bore 10, and locks the catch 17 in that bore. The sash is then pulled tight to the window frame.
When the sash is connected with the window frame by the actuating mechanism, then starting the motor operator causes the sash to open. On the other hand, when the sash has to be opened manually, turning the grip 6 to right an-
gles versus the longitudinal axis of the cover plate 3 causes that the straight edges of the barrier 11 are set parallel to longitudinal axis of the element 17a.The element 17a is then free and the sash is ready to be opened by pressing the handle. When the window is being closed and the sash rests on the window frame, the element 2b of the end piece 2 connecting the actuating mechanism with the sash slides into the bore 10, and turning the grip 6 to be parallel with the longitudinal axis of the longitudinal axis of the cover plate 3 connects the actuating mechanism of the motor operator with the sash, at the same time pulling the sash to the window frame.
